Welcome to the biggest The Old World tournament in Finland! This annual tournament has became basically the Finnish Grand Tournament in most gaming systems with over 400 players across 9 different games.

This is a five-round tournament. The duration of each round is three (3) hours. Players are responsible for monitoring the time and the judges will announce time intervals throughout the tournament. In the spirit of sportsmanship, a new round should not be started if both players will not be able to finish that turn. TOs may call a game if it goes overtime. Deliberate slow playing to buy time is unacceptable, and a player may lose points if caught doing so.

Tables & terrain

Games are played on 6’ x 4’ tables. Terrain is pre-set and cannot be moved. At the beginning of the game, it is good to go through each terrain piece with the opponent, so that both understand how each piece of terrain works.

The terrain is the personal property of players, which they borrow for tournament use, so treat the terrain with respect! A big thank you to all who provided them.

Each tournament participant should bring the following to the tournament:

- 2000 point painted and based army

- Own rulebook and supplement book for the army

- Dice, objective markers, Baggage Train model and tape measures

- Markers for spells (Cards are great)

- Tray or something similar for moving the army and supplies around

- Good gaming spirit and sense of humor

Painting and basing

Miniatures must be painted and based. Proxies are allowed within the bounds of good taste (No Teletubbies, Legos or Easter bunnies etc.).
Proxies must be clearly identifiable and represent the units they are meant to replace. If necessary, these will be presented before the game. Miniatures must have official base sizes or conversion bases.
The best painted army will receive an award.

(3rd scenario NOTE: A special feature is represented by a circular area with a 9" radius, measured from the exact centre of the battlefield. It is not classified as a terrain feature, and models may enter or move across it as normal and does not block line of sight. Unit is controlling the objective when within the 9” radius, see p. 29 Matched Play guide for other details).

- Fourth scenario: Drawn Battlelines p. 22 - Strategic Locations 3, Domination

- Fifth scenario: Upon the Field of Glory p. 20 - Strategic Locations 4, Baggage Trains

All scenarios use Fixed Turn limit (6 turns)

- Armies can be up to 2000 points.

- if some new rule updates are introduced before the tournament, the last update time to implement them is at 16.2.26. Tournament organisers will take the final word concerning updates if needed.

Army lists should be returned via New Recruit app by 18.2.26 in 18.00 hours.


Players turning in lists late will lose one or more tournament points. Lists need to include points costs, optional equipment, points per unit category (characters, core, etc.) and all other relevant details. Use either New Recruit or Old World Builder, no excel sheets!


Lists will be made public before the event. Lists are presented to their opponent and the TOs when asked. Before each game players should introduce their armies and all their magic items etc. to each other. The location of hidden assassins and similar need not be revealed but should be recorded on a piece of paper or in some other fashion before each game.

Pairings & scoring:

Pairing: Pairing is random for the first round by New Recruit. After that, pairs are formed using the Swiss method by the New Recruit pairing app.

Calculating Victory Points (VP):

Victory points are awarded as listed for each scenario and in addition to the Matched Play book page 19.

Margin of Victory:

The scale of each victory is calculated in Tournament Points. Please mark the game result from the table below in the New Recruit. The number of tournament points depends on the Victory Point difference as shown below:

1401 – 1700 = 18 – 2

1701 – 2500 = 19 – 1

2500+ = 20 – 0

The spirit of the Winter War:

Fair and friendly play is encouraged in the tournament. The purpose is to compete, but at the same time have fun and create a framework where the figures can do epic heroic deeds. The tournament organizer has the right to disqualify/remove a player from the tournament due to improper or unsportsmanlike behavior.
