in the latest white dwarf it says that dark eldar (took 'em bloody long enough) and SW will be revamped

and according to a source i know the new Dark Eldar codex is gonna be awesome (its taken them a good few years to get where they are atm

As I have said before... Mr Kelly has been working on this I believe, well in fact he basically told me himself (this has been confirmed by the person that was standing next to me at Games Day, even though I didn't know him... *wave*)

I understand that the models are going to be some of the best they have done from what people have told me.

Although have to say I did not know about Ragnar whilst I know a few more bits about other things, I can confirm the Russ tank will not be in there...

I have already started collecting marauder horseman heads for conversions as they look the nuts as blood claws.

Regardless, I know they are coming, I know there is a full codex (also now confirmed) and I am happy to wait.

1. A Full Space Wolf Codex will be released.
2. It may be in 2009 or early 2010 I don't yet know the exact date.
3. There will be a range of new models produced including IIRC a new Ragnar and plastic wolf scouts.

Not sure about anything else yet.

What I know...

I have no idea if the SW codex will be out this year. I have not heard that it will, but then I have not heard that it won’t. I do know that some playtesting has certainly been done and is ongoing.

Blood Claws are armed with BP&CCW, frag & krack and can take special weapons or PF/PWs. Furious Charge instead of berserker charge. Minimum squad size is 10 and they can go as high as 20. WS goes up to 4 but BS stays at 3.

Grey Hunters are armed like Chaos marines (i.e. everything). No more True Grit, but Counter Charge stays for this unit; can take an assortment of special weapons or PF/PWs. Squad Leader is a wolf guard with options like a vet sergeant from CA

Jump pack Blood Claws are a separate entry now.

Wolf Guard are split into two squad types - terminators and power armour.
All wolf scouts can infiltrate or come on from any table edge.
Long Fangs stay as is as far as I know. Probably picking up a BP& CCW in addition to their big guns.

Dreads and ven dreads go down to WS4, but Bjorn is back as a special character. I don’t know if they can be HQ.

I wish I knew more.

I've had confirmation of the Space Wolves as a full stand alone codex with a packed accessory sprue. The sprue apparently has a large number of conversion pieces packed in. Think the old SW sprue done to the standards and packing in of bits as the DA parts. The sprue is complete and ready to go, as is the scout speeder.

Some people are mentioning a trial/final draft SW codex being available to a few trusted sources. Since the leaks on the last few codices it seems as if those people are being very cautious about letting slip the contents lest they never see another draft. Release date still isn't clear but looks good for 2009.

Is this the currently rumoured list?
January: 2nd wave Orks (details confirmed and posted elsewhere).
February: Lizardmen (dito).
March: LOTR Apocalypse.
April:Imperial Guard and second wave daemons (incl. Tzeench)
Mai: Apocalypse
June: Skaven
August-January: Necrons, Dark Eldar, Space Wolves (Oct or Dec), Chaos Beastmen, Khemri.

Your dates go wrong after April.

Space Wolves are the next 40K army release after the Guard Codex

Some chap at my local retailer said he'd seen a model of a new Wolf lord, due in a month or 2, 3. It would be a generic Wolf Lord (eg, no Special Character etc). and it would be in a pretty dynamic pose. He referred me to Logan Grimnar dynamic. Has anyone heard anything like this?

Also, the idea of this release was to get people warmed up, and to throw us a bone (pun intended) of what's to be expected of the upcoming releases. He also said, the main release would not be within the next 6 months (which we all already know). Do with this what you will.

ps. I asked him if it was the chap with the Lightning claws, and he said no.

Anwyays, onto topic. Today, I was at Warhammer world at a doubles tourney between two GW stores, and whilst in the loo,I bumped into Phil Kelly, who then ended up having a ten minute convo with me a some friends in the main hall. Anyways, the topic came onto wolves, and this si what I was told.

- He said it was going to be ready VERY SOON. So, that provides tacit support for our december release, perhaps even earlier.
- On the question of us turning into grey ultras, he said NO! (not like that, but you get the point ) He said the whole Wolf codex will be based around heroic warriors/ individuals, rather than like, tactical squad tarnis' overall involvement or something. The codex will have plenty of sagas, greats stories, beautiful artwork and generally be packed. So, essentially, we are getting the individualism that Wolves are famous for.
- We will be getting shiny new models, as well as probably more wolfy bits as well.

In addition, I got my codex signed by him too

I know these aren't specific rumours,and I apologise for it (he had to leave and write some more of it ) but I just wanted to report this, to try and reassure you guys that they want to make it good; they seem to have the right kind of approach, as well as (if youve seen the guard codex) the will to make a truly broken dex

Following up on last month's Spaces Wolves chatter, we get these little nuggets of Warhammer 40k joy fresh off the rumormill...

-If drop pods are taken, the whole army must take them.

-Bjorn the Fellhanded has AV14 on all sides, better stats.

-There is some mad Wulfen character, who has his own personal drop pod. He can choose who he fights in combat, like a challenge in WFB. No-one else can fight him apart from the person he's attacking, unless said model is killed, in which case his squad can then attack him.

-All rules for Named Characters have been rebuffed - all of them can take terminator armour for +50 points. All Named Characters models are getting re-done, if not for the actual release then in subsequent releases.

-Any character can take terminator for 50pts, which includes weapons.

-Runic weapons I believe function as Relic blades, but with something else quite snazzy.

-Wolf Guard (in terminator armour) with lightning claws rack up 6 attacks on the charge each. A very broken thing to do (think this ill be omitted from the final codex) is put them with Ragnar Blackmane, who gives them Fleet of foot and rending, though dont' quote me on rending.

-Wolf guard in terminator armour with lightning claws are costing 60 points.

-Individual Wolf Guard can replace squad leaders - all should look individual.

-No model in the SW codex at all has the option to take a thunderhammer and storm shield.

-Wolf Scouts won't be troops.

-Wulfen are back in and TH SS combo isn't an entry, I believe.

-Wolf Guard as squad leaders are goign to be very indivudiaul - they're encouragin player sot model each like a "captain" if you will - very individual - a veteran - personal trophies and the like.

-From the recent space marine models (barring Hestan) they are shaping up to be very nice. Complete overhaul - as it should be. Blackmane is getting redone. As is Logan Grimnar. And the Wolf Priest Character as well.

~Standard caveats on these, but BoLS has been hearing for some time, that the Space Wolves are coming this year. I'm liking the all or nothing drop-pod rule, to take the Wolves anti-teleportation superstition into account. The no TH/SS is also interesting, but maybe they could get some other new crazy viking combo like PW/SS or even TH/SB. finally the inclusion of Wulfen is a nice repreive for all of those 13th Company modelers and players. Have at it guys!
