Lähden nyt lopultakin organisoimaan jo pidemmän aikaa suunnittelemaani Flames of War -liigaa keväälle 2015! Suurin osa teistä ei minua tunne, koska aktivoiduin Flames-rintamalla vasta Jyväskylässä opiskeluaikoinani, ja Joensuuhun palattuani figut jäivät vuodeksi pölyttymään hyllyyn. Nyt yleisen kiireellisyystilanteen lopultakin sen salliessa on tullut aika kaivaa ne esille ja lähteä kartoittamaan, mitä Joensuun FoW-skenellä on tarjottavanaan!

Liigan tavoitteet: päästä tutustumaan paikallisiin pelaajiin, kehittää omia pelitaitoja eteenpäin, virkistää skeneä ja houkutella samalla mukaan kaikki mahdolliset FoW:in pelaajat Joensuun seudulta. Näitä tavoitteita silmällä pitäen liiga ei tule olemaan erityisen kilpailuhenkinen, mutta pisteitä kuitenkin lasketaan ja toivon mukaan pelaamista myös ajetaan liigan edetessä enemmän turnausmaiseen suuntaan (tämä tarkoittanee käytännössä tiukemmin aikarajattuja matseja; kaikki 2,5h turnausformaattia pelanneet tietävät, että FoW on tuolloin täysin eri eläin kuin hitaat tankkikihnutukset ynnä muut tyhmyydet salliva aikarajaton pelimuoto).

Liigamuodon tulisi mielestäni mahdollistaa sekä innostuneen yletön että flegmaattisen laiska osallistumistiheys, joten sovitaan pohjalle kolmen-neljän viikon kierrokset (kierros per kuukausi olisi nätti, elegantti ratkaisu), joiden aikana saa pelata tasan niin monta peliä kuin ehtii/haluaa. Jokaisen pelaajan kunkin kierroksen pistemäärä olisi sama kuin kaikkien hänen pelaamiensa pelien pistemäärien mediaani (mediaani siksi, koska keskiarvo heiluu liikaa yksittäisten murskavoittojen/rökäletappioiden seurauksena); yksittäiset pelit rankattaisiin siis FoW:in normaalilla 1-6 skaalalla. Lisäpisteitä saisi tyylikkäästä maalauksesta ja yleisestä hyvästä käytöksestä - näissä seurattaisiin normaalia turnauspisteytystä. Skenaariot pelaajat saisivat valita itse tai viskoa halutessaan randomilla nopalla. Armeijalistat olisivat perinteikkäästi mallia Late War, 1500 pistettä.

Otan tässä ketjussa vastaan ilmoittautumisia sekä kehitysideoita - lähtien liikkeelle ihan siitä, että onko tällaiselle liigalle oikeasti kysyntää, vai haluaako kaupunki Jotakin Aivan Muuta?

I'm very interested in play Flames of War :) But I have to say that the FoW community in Joensuu is very reduced :(

If you want to organize a league and you need help, my Spanish group and I have organized two leagues (the second one is going on at this moment). Basically we prepare three phases with point increments: 900, 1300 and 1750 points. And players have two months to play three scenerios in every phase. There are other details, such as secondary missions and "interwar" tournaments.

I think the first phase of any possible league should be getting the attention of all the available FoW players in Joensuu - this is where we're at right now. Good to hear there's at least you playing the game here! Who else is available?

I was thinking of delivering some FoW-scale terrain to Fantasiapelit in the near future to encourage playing the game there...

I have some FoW scenery at home and more on the way. How does Fantasiapelit work? I mean, maybe I could leave my scenery in the shop and whoever can use it to play FoW. Indeed, if it's needed some of us can meet one day and prepare some stuff (roads, crops with doormats, etc).

I have been "sort of interested" in FoW for couple of years. Indeed, I bought a starterpack, but then it turned out that new edition came out after two weeks, and for some reason I was not eligible for a free new rulebook. :( That sort of killed my interest at that point.

If someone would be interested in demoing the game for a short while, it might encourage me to take another look at FoW. I have quite a lot of Axis&allies minitanks and 1:144, and tons of 1:72 infantry (who doesnt...) but I guess in a tornament setting one would have to use correct scale vehicles?

I have also thought of putting together some scratch-built terrain for FoW and delivering it to Fantasiapelit at some stage; currently I have about a half-dozen two-story Normandy buildings (all unpainted), some low hedges and a few forests available. They can be used to set up at least basic terrain. If we throw in your stuff as well, that sounds like a game board to me!

As for the demo, I'm game. Maybe towards the end of the next week, around 16. or 17. day? Need to look through the rules myself... :P

Perfect. To prepare a Normandy table I can carry roads, trees, some houses (alas unpainted), a complete bocage and something more.

I can deliver the scenery when you play the demo if you want.

Sounds great! So, Timmon, when do you want the demo? Is friday the 16th around 12 o'clock (or so) ok?

There is the universal complication of work to overcome here. Friday 12.00 Im busy at meetings, like the rest of the friday. In fact, even the evening is kinda taken on fridays. However, saturday might be doable. Is that possible for the demo player(s)?

Saturday around noon should be doable as well. Have you any business to Fantasiapelit, so you could reserve the table while at it? I won't be moving around town until maybe thursday...

About the demo: Im sorry to say this week's saturday is also taken for family activities. So, for me, the demo sessions has to be at soma later date.

When you decide a date, I will try to join you and deliver the scenery. I would also need to remember how to play FoW (last game was before coming to Finland!).

Obviously we need more FoW players. Do you have any idea about how we can recruit more?

We should probably place some sort of a poster or leaflet at Fantasiapelit. Or actually PLAY THE GAME so people can see it getting played, and can become interested in it. Or both. Probably both!

How about on the 23rd or 24th (next friday or saturday)? 1500pts Late War? I can play either Axis or Allies. We could also stack up all our terrain while at it, and see what we got!

I can go reserve the table tomorrow after work. If they do not have an open slot there, I'll let you know and we'll reschedule.

If you're planning to play at Fantasiapelit I'd like to point out that on friday(s) starting at 16:00 is MtG FNM and since it is the release event of the new set there might be more magic players than normal.
