[BR] Chaos vs Lost & the damned in breakout&patrol

Crimson Angels took into field again after a pause. I have been concentrating on fantasy and in 40k orks more lately so the chaos marines have been put aside for a while. Today however they went into battle once more.

Damn small army(what with HQ taking over 33% of points...) but OTOH I had bunch of models I haven't tried for a while(predator, heavy bolter havocs, land raider). We agreed on random scenario(rolled from CA table) with exception of no cleanse(which we fought last time). Opponent had:

nurgle lietnaunt with S5 + furious charge + manreaper + daemonic speed. Ouch.
3x10 traitors with missile and plasma gun
5xtraitors with mortar and sniper rifle
3xnurglings
24xmutant including aspiring champpion and mutant boss, both with power fists
10 traitor with shotguns, melta and mutant boss with fist in rhino with dirge caster
7 furies
sentinel with multi-laser
leman russ with trio of heavy bolters
basilisk
5 spawns

He has beefed up his lietnaunt from last time I saw it but few less mutants. For scenario(after rerolling the cleanse that obviously decided to show up) and got breakthrough...We had some recalling of scenario rules but eventually decided on 12" wide and 36" long deployment zone for me(in the center), 6" deep zones for him(18" between our zones in other words), he deploys with hidden deployment first and then we roll for a first turn and I need half of my army off to win(aka 5). Hopefully not too different to official scenario. Terrain was trio of forrest in center, tower in north-east(my POV) and few hills here and there(terrain set up before scenario rolling). Looking at this I could see I had perfect terrain for my plan. I could effectively block my rear from most of shooting from other side, thus helping me immensely. Bad thing was that I had lots of slower units...In otherwords I needed land raider, lietnaunt+retinue, rhino, rhino squad AND predator all survive or I'm almost certainly going to lose the battle...Eventually I opted to deploy on right flank. Havocs into dead center with forrest behind them, missile squad in the forrest, 8 shooty marines front of havocs, north of havocs predator and north of predator other shooty marines. Land raider on south with rhino behind(and ensuring both rears are covered by forrests. Especially rhino).

There he had russ, 2 missile squad, mutants + lietnaunt and sentinel. D'oh! I could have done with russ and basilisk switching places but no big and I didn't want to slow mechanised assault by going around forrest or going through and thus risking immobilisation. Then we rolled for first turn and I got it.

Crimson 1st:

Land raider creeped 6" south-east with rhino following suit(and making damn sure land raider was between everything enemy had!). Rest stayed put. Shooting. Havocs + predator open up on southern traitor squad on east(near land raider). 7 died(cover saves helped a lot). Frag missile wounded twice but both were saved. Lascannon squad on north fired at basilisk ripping the big gun from it. Lascannon group in center fired at russ and shaked it. Land raider split fired into russ and traitor squad killing one traitor and blowing the big gun from leman russ. Overall extremely succesfull turn :D

Lost&damned 1st:

Rhino moved at full speed ahead. Mutants advanced along sentinel. Russ headed full forward. Shooting. No casualties but stunned predator(his flank wasn't protected from heavy bolter of basilisk...). He fired at land raider total of 3 krak missiles and all failed.

Crimson 2nd:

Shooty squad at north advanced toward east(unlikely to reach edge but ah well). Land raider kept creeping 6" toward edge. Rhino kept staying behind. Havocs opened into mutants killing several of them(hurah!). I tried to get the sentinel but all I got was weapon destroyed. Land raider split fire, machine spirit firing at leman russ(no success) but reqular lascannon(I had forgotten the heavy bolter...D'oh!) blew out the agitator from same traitor squad as before and missile launcher ran offboard. Hurah!

Lost&damned 2nd:

Rhino continued advancing and disembarked next to missile squad. Sentinel and lietnaunt prepared to charge lascannon group in center. Mutants advanced. Shooting was ineffective, again. However assault wasn't. He killed 4 marines from lascannon group(damn manreaper) and what's more his aspiring champpion among mutants managed to blow the land raider...There went my chances of winning the game(most likely). Urgh. And the rhino squad charged into missile squad and havocs on same effort...Combat went in my favour but dirge caster kept them in line.

Crimson 3rd:

Terminators prepare to retaliate and move front of mutants. Rhino flanks them to rear and squad disembarks(flamers...). Still free lascannon group heads forward once more. Predator moves 12" forward(no point staying there anymore). Shooting. I killed something like 14 mutants in single turn + aspiring champpion(he allocated wound to him and failed the save). BURN TRAITORS(wait a sec. I'm chaos too. What traitors they are?-) Terminators charged them(not rhino squad though, I didn't want too much distance between edge and them). Lietnaunt killed all par 1 which was killed by lightning claw. That was fun. Normally mutants are pain in the ass for me to deal. God bless multiple flamers :D His lietnaunt killed only marine he could(I had moved the model I COULD move into contact with sentinel, thus putting me out of kill zone which he cleared in his turn :D). Combat with havocs, missile squad and traitors went in my favour again, 4 traitor remaining.

Lost&damned 3rd:

Furies appear and prepare to help the traitors fighting against 2 of my squads. Shooting kills 2 marines from northern lascannon group. Furies charge into combat and this time it went badly for me, missile squad wiped out and havocs were feeling pretty alone there...Obviously the squad fighting against his lietnaunt died.

Crimson 4th:

Rhino squad embarks and exit offboard. I won't be giving him chance to blow the rhino, even with just 1 missile launcher able to shoot them...Terminators advance toward edge as well as does predator. North squad moves forward and then shoots at his lietnaunt. No damage and I just shrug and charge him. Might just as well try it. If nothing else I might get speed help and he's going to charge me anyway. Alas all but 1 from squad died...Havocs wiped out as well.

Lost&damned 4th:

Remaining 2 traitors who had fought against havocs embarked on rhino which then moved next to my predator. His squad then prepared to fire meltagun...First however he opted to try to reach it with mortar. Maximum guess and straight top of his rhino...HIT from scatter...One dead rhino. Squad survives without harm and prepares to take advantage of fact they were now within short range of meltagun(which they hadn't been in rhino) and blows the predator which explodes with 6" radius which kills both traitors...Needless to say we had laughs over this :D With this I just declared that my terminators(after he killed 1 of them with lasgun) advanced off the edge thus ending the game.

Defeat for crimson angels but his 4th turn definetly made game memorable :D Game had took so little time(~1 hour) that we opted to play a new one in same terrain. Scenario we rolled was patrol. I had wide DZ and he took the L style on my right. I put lascannon group(7 strong accidently) on board, he put mutants and sentinel. I won first turn.

Crimson 1st:

Marines advance forward(lascannon at mutants isn't worth the effort).

Lost&damned 1st:

Mutants advance, sentinel moves to edge of tower. No shooting casualties.

Crimson 2nd:

Rhino squad, predator and other lascannon group arrives. Rhino from center, predator from slightly more rightlascannon group on right. First lascannon group shakes the sentinel and immobilises it as well. Havoc launcher kills 2 mutants.

Lost&damned 2nd:

2 traitor squads, mortar squad, spawns, lietnaunt, nurglings and rhino appears. Rhino and spawns come from right, rest from furtest edge. Mutants kept advancing. No shooting casualties to note.

Crimson 3rd:

Havocs(from tad left from center) and missile squad(far right) arrives. Still no sight of HQ. Damn. Rhino advanced to be behind forrest so that only 1 missile launcher could see it. Shooting kills bunch of more mutants but predator had lousy crew this time with less than 50% hit rate...I also blew out his rhino with furtest lascannon group which killed some traitors and then killed even more with first lascannon group. Only 3 remained :D

Lost&damned 3rd:

Basilisk and russ comes and move straight to left. Russ screens the basilisk. Traitor squad arrives. As do furies who prepare to charge the lascannon group that was closest to him. Mutants spread out more wary of flamers. Shooting ineffective with ONE exception. Mortar killed ONE havoc which put squad out of coherency...D'uh! Combat didn't went well either. No casualties from furies, I kill 1 and 2 more dissolved to instability check. Hurah!

Crimson 4th:

Land raider arrives(hurah!). I figured I didn't need squad inside all that much(forgetting they didn't NEED to be inside...) and the 2 big tanks were much bigger threat so put it to left(I should have put terminators come to center-right! D'oh!). Rhino advanced next to mutants(but squad stayed still, possibly mistake but I expected heavy casualties on them so was affraid charge range might not be enough. Anyway I killed most of squad apart there :D Land raider split fire into 2 tanks. Basilisk went apart in flames but flank hit into russ resulted into nothing...D'uh! Combat. I killed no furies and lost 2 in return. Thankfully I passed the LD check.

Lost&damned 4th:

Mutants, traitors and spawn prepare all to charge into lascannon group fighting against furies. Shooting sees death of 2 marines to russ(all he could see with exception of land raider). He also blew apart my rhino(damn 6's) and killed 2 in explosion. And needless to say my lascannon squad was wiped out with somehting like 12 power fist attack in there...

Crimson 5th:

No moving except rhino squad that backed more into forrest. Missile squad rapid fired into furies, killed 1. I wiped out the mutants :D Land raider fired into leman russ, no harm, again(partly because I tried to shoot into rhino traitors with heavy bolter). Again lascannon hit but failed to harm the vechile...

Lost&damned 5th:

Lietnaunt tries to charge rhino squad and succeeds! ARGH! He was barely in range...D'uh! Spawns prepare to charge other lascannon group, furies into missile block. Rhino traitors prepare to try their luck against predator(damn melta). Shooting. Russ into land raider, no harm. Melta into predator, miss. Combat. Swoosh 2 marines fell to lietnaunt, Remaining 5 marines surrounded him. Spawns killed 2 but I held nicely. Furies killed 2 for no loss to themselves.

Crimson 6th:

No moving. Havocs open up on rhino traitors(all they could reach). Annoyingly one survives. Leman russ fires lascannon into russ and blows battle cannon apart. Other lascannon fails to hit the meltagun traitor...This leaves my predator. Either I shoot into big traitor squads, no real harm possible with only havoc and autocannon in range OR I shoot into one lonely traitor OR I shoot at sentinel...Traitor is biggest source of vp's so 6 wound later he's very, VERY dead(no cover saves either :D). Combat. Furies dies for no loss to me. Spawns killed 2 more but again I held. And critical combat. His lietnaunt. He needs to kill 5 or he's dead. He attack 7 times. He hits 5. Needing 3+ to kill he wounds with all...D'oh!

Lost&damned 6th:

Lietnaunt into havocs(argh!). Shooting into missile squad and krak missiles blew 2 of them, leaving 1 alive. Combat. Spawns ate final 2 marines and lietnaunt killed 4 but final havocs held. Game over.

End result. I got little over 700, he got 665...Winning draw for me, mostly because HQ ate so much of points. Had just 1 of the 5 wounding rolls from lietnaunt failed it would have been SO much different. I would almost certainly kill him(4 attacks hitting on 4+ with 2 rerolls and killing on 2+...). That would have saved half vp's from my rhino squad and havocs plus got me vp's from his lietnaunt(aproximatly 300 pts swing).
