[epic] Legio Victorum vs Gargant big mobs - englantia
Lähetetty: Ke 12.01.2005 11:59
For a start notice that the titan legion list we used was MY list, not the one created in this forum. Gargant mobs are basicly orkimedes gargant big mobs minus drop roks or tellyportas(armageddon specific things. Our campaign is based long before armageddon war. We also have dropped grot attack rule when facing _titan legion_ forces because they are on equal footing in activation war and unless I give titans similar rule would be quite simply too unfair(as this game would have proven). Other changes will be in army structure like formation sizes, contents and costs but these have to wait untill I get around writing the list down). Armies were:
Gargant mob:
Great gargant - mega choppa, big mek(improved boilers), grand mek
Gargant - mega choppa
kustom gargant - big mek, 3 supa zzap gun
big biggun mob: 10 big guns, big mek(soopa-zzap gun)
zzap fortress mob - 4 zzap fortress
snappa mob - 8 dreadnought, 6 killa kan
snappa mob - 8 dreadnought, 6 killa kan
Legio Victorum battlegroup:
Titans:
Chasis/configuration/weapons/veteran princep
Warlord/assault/chainfist, 2xplasma cannon, melta cannon/yes
Reaver/standard/2xturbo laser destructor, rocket launcher/yes
Reaver/executor/gatling blaster, volcano cannon, rocket launcher/no
2xwarhound/inferno/turbo laser destructor, inferno gun/2xno
Mechanised infantry: IG commander, 7 IG infantry, 4 chimera
Mechanised infantry: IG commander, 7 IG infantry, 4 chimera
Paladin host: 3 paladins(note that stats for these also vary from forum ones. 3 paladins is all I have and I wanted them to be strong enough to work in group of 3)
He was tad limited in weapon configurations(we opted for no proxy for this game). Warlord with standard weapons par turbo lasers changed to vulcan mega bolters was in process of paint removal(and in honesty would likely been poor choise for this game). This left just 3xrocket launcher reaver and 2 standard warhounds. Plus the Imperator but taking that would have been tad too extreme for first playtest game for titan legion list
(and yes the list does have Imperator. 1 landed on planet in campaign fluff, ergo it has place in the list. Plus I have model so why not).
For power fields great gargant got full 12(yea!), kustom gargant got 3 and gargant got 5.Terran was(my POV) hill on left, second further to right and bit closer to table edge, then on far right and around center cluster of 3 forrests forming sort of triangle looking right. Another forrest on far left about 33% away from his table edge and finally another hill near center at his deployment zones edge.
His home(ie my bliz goal) objective was bit left of his hill and I put take and hold objectives in triangle formation front of it(obviously). My home objective was on far right and again take and hold objectives were in sorta triangle formation.
For deployment I put one snappa mob in middle next to one take and hold objective, other snappa mob guarded second take and hold objective on right supported by big guns in woods. Zzzap mob was on left behind hill(not the leftmost one). Right of it great gargant, then kustom gargant and on far right gargant.
He deployed standard reaver(from now refered only as a reaver) on center around same area as zzap fortress and great gargant, then warlord(obviously wanting to test it's melta cannon against great gargant). Then behind hill mechanised infantry 2 with paladins front of them. Further right mechanised infantry 1. Then warhound group and on far right executor reaver(from now on refered only as executor).
Turn 1. Titans won strategy roll, made orks move first.
Snappa mob on right double moved toward executor, big shootas were still out of range. Executor then advanced toward them and big guns and aimed at the big gun battery. Everything reached(we used 60cm weapon ranges) but only rocket launcher scored a kill.
Reqular gargant then marched behind forrest on right. Warhounds then demonstrated full effectivity of inferno guns by advancing behind first forrest(but still in sight of snappa mob) and torching at poor walkers. 4 killa kans and 3 dreadnoughts were fused together and rest ran in terror behind gargant.
I then opted to take bull from horns and doubled great gargant toward warlord(battle of titans coming) but shooting was useless. Reaver then doubled forward and fired at great gargant, 5 shields out. This however put it into position to strike with zzap fortressess who using double action(for secured move and shoot) moved so that hill was between them and enemy. This meant that only titans had LOS to them(and they had LOS to titans) thus increasing their survivability. Bombardment from soopa-zzap guns overloaded reaver shields instantly.
Warlord then tried to double but rolled a 1(BM prevented auto activation) and opted to shamble forward. Kustom gargant has no such problems and move top of hill zzap mob was using as protection(but making sure to enter LEFT side of hill to keep zzap LOS intact) and caused 3 points of damage to reaver, one critical as well.
Big guns then failed to activate so just marshalled 2/3 BM's away. Paladins then marched next to them. Eeewww...Those will quite simply shred big guns apart if they can get there. Ergo I doubled snappa mob from center to side of paladins and all the shooting actually caused point of damage! Yea!
I had, by then, ran out of units. Infantry company 1 moves front of executor and shoots 1 dreadnought from unbroken snappa formation. Second moves left of snappa formation but causes no casualties.
In rally phase all but broken snappa mob succeeds in rally tests and reaver suffered another point of damage.
Turn 2. Orks have the initiave(this was big).
Big guns sustain fired at paladins and blew damaged paladin apart and damaged another one. Rest ran, broken, next to executor. I then retained initiave with snappa mob and engaged infantry company(who had come within 15cm, obviously planning to support assault in case he starts the turn) and shred them apart in a storm of power claw attacks. Only 1 dreadnought fell.
Reaver then sustai fired at great gargant(mistake! He overconcerned himself with GG. Reaver should have aimed at zzap fortressess). Rockets knocked 2 shields, turbo lasers rest and cause point of damage.
I then demonstrated why he should have aimed at zzap mob. Sustain fire(SC reroll used), reaver was totally vaporised. Take that!
Warlord then advance on great gargant and I wince as melta cannon hits. But then only one damage point caused. Phew. Plasma cannons fire and cause 2 point of damage. Kustom gargant retaliates by overloading warlords shields(I'm feeling quilty by now). Great gargant then doubled front of warlord. All shooting fails par one big gun battery that caused point of damage!
Warhounds entered nearest woods and repeated last turns trick by torching 2 killa kans and 4 dreadnought from unbroken snappa mob. Rest backed off, quite broken(this inferno gun is actually quite nice weapon. Inferno pattern might get slight up in point cost because right now they seem to be far more effective than reqular variant).
Infantry company then wants to double away because there was big nasty gargant next to them. Failed activation roll so had to just advance away and next to executor.
Gargant then advances! next to warhounds. Shoots at retreating infantry and blew 3 infantry apart.
Executor advanced toward big guns. Shot at great gargant with volcano cannon. 2 damage caused and BOTH caused fire(gulp!). Then came the rally phase. Great gargant suffered 2 more damage and yet another fire was caused(this one is going down. 4 DC left, 3 fires going...). To make my life even more miserable only great gargant managed it's rally roll. Meanwhile warlord, paladins and infantry all pass their rally rolls.
Turn 3. Orks won strategy roll.
I knew I was going to lose the great gargant(just matter of time) so I decided to risk it and engaged warlord in close combat(before I remembered I ought to have fire fighted. His chainsaw was 3x as effective as great gargants poor mega choppa). I managed to cause one point of damage but suffered 2 in return. With help of inspiring from veteran princep warlord won by 1. Great gargant headed straight toward his table edge and the bliz objective(nothing to lose).
Gargant then opted to engage executor. I couldn't believe my eyes when I, AGAIN, caused just 1 DC(and here I had better mega choppa!) and suffered 2 from REAVER without close combat weapon. YIKES! Luckily I rolled 1 higher and gargant was bigger so reaver broke. He repeated my trick and moved next to bliz objective.
Warhounds then advanced next to big guns and...Kill 2. I sighed from relief.
Zzap mob then advanced toward warlord and...Blew it up. He REALLY should have dealt with these.
Paladins then doubled next to gargant. Battlecannon knocked shield out.
Big guns then decided to pay favour from the burning and sustain fired at warhounds. One lost shields and suffered damage. His infantry company then doubled next to gargant and fired. 1 shield out(but more worryingly one BM caused).
Kustom gargant then advanced toward warhounds. Other warhound lost shields and suffered damage. In rally phase great gargant blew up, snappa mob on right(the one that broke on first turn) rallied, as did big guns and warhounds.
It was at this point we realised titan legion nearly won...Both had got break their spirit goal but gargant was only barely within his table side(and thus prevented and they shall not pass goal). TOO CLOSE! I ought to pay more attention on victory conditions.
Turn 4. Titan legion went first.
Paladins charged into gargant, chainsaws itching to cause some damage. In total 3 DC WAS caused(that was lucky) including critical. What's better gargant was only 2 BM from breaking. Alas both paladins were wiped out.
Warhounds tried to engage gargant(yes he tried that). One was suppressed by BM's by now so shot at gargant. 3 out of 4 shields knocked out. I knew I had to secure life of gargant and that meant removal of infantry company. I took bull from horns and engaged them. This was risky because if I suffer any damage I break(and that would have been bad). I naturally wiped the infantry but lost remaining shield and almost did suffer the damage. Only reinforced armour prevented that. Phew!
Now titan legion had no units left. So I just doubled zzzap mob next to bliz objective and blew warhounds with kustom gargant. Executor didn't rally.
Orks won, 3 objectives(break spirit, bliz, and they shall not pass) vs 1(break spirit). Had grot attack rule been in use game might have been won in turn 3 and in turn 4 he would also have got fourth objective(defend the flag).
Game was pretty much decided in 2 events. Turn 2 initiave roll(he risked too much and lost big time there) and his over concentration on great gargant. He ought to have dealt with zzap mob and maybe even with kustom gargant first. Now I had sooooo many soopa-zzap guns I could blow titans with alarming frequency. But next time he'll be sure to try out other weapon configurations in the army list.
