If the spiny does not hit enemy models it is simply placed on the nominated spot. Spinies don't block line of sight. They are small and unable to defend themselves. Spiny may not charge enemies, but if caught in close combat, the spiny is killed outright. Enemy units may walk over spinies (which also results in killing the spiny) but every model touching it takes a S5 hit because of the visious spikes.
