I decided not to garrison Rough Riders as they would have been in range of Dactylises.

Turn 1

Initiative: Imperial Guard

The battle starts with Manticores in west ordered to launch at the centre of Tyranids. Assault swarm 1 target and the barrage is effective. Kills are 2 Tyranid Warrior, 3 Ravener, Gargoyle, Hormagaunt and 2 Termagant units. Tyranids reply with brisk mental commands to Harridan 1 to double. However the beast seems to have problems and even the Dominatrix cannot help so it holds and moves forwards only a bit.

Seeing chance to wipe out one swarm Thunderbolts are ordered to ground attack the centre swarm and try to nail the last Warrior unit. However they manage only to hit Termagant and Hormagaunt units leaving the last Warrior alive. Being pounded by Imperials is not fun and Assault swarm 1 marches forwards to hide behind spacecraft and reorganises units around the Warriors.

Shadowsword is next and it's ordered to try to drop one of the Harridans. It doubles southwest and targets the Harridan 2 managing to hit but only do 1 damage. Harridan 2 feeling vulnerable doubles forwards to join the Assault swarm 1 and pops-up above the spacecraft to target Leman Russes. To surprise of us both 2 tanks succumb to the bioacids fired at them. Leman Russes in retaliation are ordered to double, but they refuse even under the stern words of Supreme Commander and regroup instead removing all BMs.

Seeing that enemy cannot attack them in west, the Assault swarm 2 march forwards to take up positions in open near Shadowsword. Bombards are ordered to sustain but they too are experiencing difficulties as spores in air have jammed their systems. They hold and remove BMs.

In east the Dominatrix' swarm doubles forwards to take up positions in the forest there. Response is immediate and Leman Russ company 2 advances forwards, bringing their las cannons into range and proceed to miss every shot. Support swarms Dactylises show how it's done and fire on Leman Russes scoring 2 hits and wrecking one tank. As Dactylises have acted the Rough Riders are ordered to close in with all speed and they march near the Dominatrix infested forest.

Last to go for Tyranids is Hierophant, which marches into the IG end taking position in hill there. Flak Battery is ordered to reposition themselves with double, but spores are clogging their engine exhausts and they hold and fire on Hierophant instead. No damage is done. Last to go is Regimental HQ. After a bit of though they decide to show how it's done and double forwards at full speed moving to centre and partially behind Assault swarm 1. Infantry jumps out of Chimeras and all open fire making a lot of shots which fail to hit anything remotely useful.

End Phase

Thunderbolts blast their way out of the Tyranids board edge, getting a blast marker.

Regimental HQ makes a bold thrust into middle of Tyranid lines and fire at the Assault swarm ineffectually.


Rough Riders gallop with all their speed trying to get past the Dominatrix' swarm.

Turn 2

Initiative: Imperial Guard

Leman Russ company 2 goes first and they sustain at the Dominatrix' swarm. This time they manage to hit and 2 Malefactors and Ravener is dropped. Retaining in west, Leman Russ company 1 advances towards west and get into crossfire position of Hierophant. They blast it as much as they can and do 5 damage with 2 criticals pulverising the beast.


Tyranids response is immediate. Assault swarm 2 bounds forwards and get into close combat with Russ company 1.

4 Tanks are teared apart by the Tyranids including Commissars Vanquisher while none of the Russes hit anything. Resolution is strongly on Tyranids and they proceed to wipe the formation out. Retaining the Assault swarm 1 engages nearby Regimental HQ.

This battle proves much more equal and while imperials lose 2 Chimeras and 3 Infantry units Tyranids are pushed back. Losses on Tyranids are 2 Raveners, 3 Hormagaunts, Gargoyle and Termagant units.

In east the Rough Riders are next. They spur their horses to full speed and engage the Support swarm with 5 units getting into close combat. However they seem to have problems with lances and of 12 attacks only 1 hits! In retaliation the Tyranids rip apart all but Commissar who steadfastly stays put. Retaining the Shadowsword is ordered to advance, but it's reporting technical problems and holds removing BMs instead.

Tyranids don't have such problems and Harridan 2 engages the Flak Battery into firefight. Flaks manage to do one damage but lose two tanks themselves and third with Commissar flees south.

Manticores goes next with one unit sustaining. The target in the end is Dominatrix' swarm. However only one hit is done and only 2BMs is awarded. Tyranids order Harridan 1 to get the artillery. It doubles ahead and fires on the Manticores but fails to hit. Bombard finally have sorted out their problems and sustain at the Assault swarm 2. The heavy artillery drops Tyranid Warrior, Ravener, 2 Hormagaunt, Gargoyle, Termagant units.

In south eastern corner the Support swarm engages the lone Rough Rider unit and rips them apart with loss of one Gargoyle unit. Regimental HQ is next and ordered to marshall in order to get away from the Dominatrix. However they fail and hold removing 4BM. To show why the Dominatrix doubles to Regimental HQ and orders her swarm to fire. Effective it is as 7 Infantry including Supreme Commander and one Chimera is lost. They break and move to Tyranid end.

Last to go is Thunderbolts. They are ordered to make a ground attack against the Assault swarm 1. One hit is enough to kill the Tyranid Warrior and the swarm will be lost.

End Phase

Thunderbolts leave from friendly edge without any BMs.

Turn 3

Initiative: Tyranids

Assault swarm 2 wants to taste more metal and engages the Shadowsword. The Raveners bound and surround the super heavy while others move around it with one Tyranid Warrior unit taking control of an objective. Termagant and Hormagaunt units are gunned down while the Tyranids manage to do one damage, which causes critical blowing the super heavy tank. Retaining the Harridan 2 engages Bombards into close combat. The artillery pieces manage to 1 damage to Harridan, but are all lost in the process.

Thunderbolts are called to to make a ground attack, but they report problems and stand down instead.

Dominatrix then doubles her brood towards the Leman Russ company 2. However their shooting is less effective this time and no tanks are damaged.

In west the Flak Battery sustains. Target is LVs on Assault swarm and one unit of Tyranid Warriors is cut down leaving one unit to lead the swarm.

Support swarm tries it's best to get rid of Regimental HQ but fails to hit anything. BM wrecks one Chimera.

Last to go is Leman Russ company 2. They double towards the blitz keeping out of range of Dominatrix. All guns fire on Harridan and 3 hits, which are all saved.

Tyranid blitz is being protected heavily by a support swarm.

Turn 4

Initiative: Imperial Guard

Thunderbolts go first and they make an attack run against Assault 2. Last of the Tyranid Warriors is cut down along with pair of Gaunts. Unperturbed the swarm does the last command given to them and assault nearby Flak Battery wiping it's last survivor out. Retaining the Support swarm fires on the Regimental HQ wrecking Chimera and killing 2 Infantry stands breaking the company again.

Leman Russ company takes careful aim and sustains at the Harridan utterly decimating the beast.

This doesn't help much as the Harridan 1 then marches to the objective in west. This is enough for Tyranids so we skip the last action of Dominatrix.

End Phase

Fail: Regimental HQ and Manticores

Failure to rally anything means that Tyranids win 0 - 3 with Break Their Spirit, Take and Hold and They Shall Not Pass.


Tyranid blitz objective is heavily defended in the end.
