Liberators Renegade Legion taustatarinaa
Liberators Renegade legion
-"This is Interceptor II reporting on hostile activity, how copy?"
-"Vader I here, go ahead."
-"All Victors and Footmobiles be advised, we have multiple enemy units sighted on sector Delta-two-two-niner-Tango, break. Confirm fire mission, over."
-"Confirm enemy contact on D229T, Interceptor II you're free to engage."
-"Roger that Vader I, let's free the shit out of them."
Liberators are a renegade force to the very limit. Its organisation is unnatural, mixing both of those who had once sworn to protect the Imperium to the death and others, who have cursed the Emperor and betrayed their master, legion and heritage.
The origins of the legion are in the Eye of Terror, the nest of Chaos which is currently one of the most furiously fought fronts in the Imperial defence. Spawning terrible nightmares the worlds of the sector feature all kinds of battlegrounds, challenging warriors waging war upon them with their nature, beasts and inhabitants. Invasion after another takes place upon these worlds, colonies being conquered by rebels and taken back by Imperial forces, Daemonic Warp rifts sealed and broken open again. More than once have the defenses of the Emperor's followers been about to crumble, but until now the horrors of the Eye have been held back by brave defenders.
Eternal chaos within the sectors often cripples armies to splinters, leaving single warriors or small groups of survivors wandering in the wild, left behind, unable to contact the Headquarter. After months or years of exile, some of these individuals may confront others sharing the same fate. Although it is more likely that the situation ends in bloodshed, this is not always the case. Weaker ones might seek security of those stronger than them or independent warriors might consider cooperation a good idea for a short while. This is what happened to Liberators as well.
Liberator Marines have their roots in several different chapters and legions, loyalists and traitors alike. Struggling alone in the Eye takes its toll, insecurity, pressure and confusion of the situation can overwhelm even a Space Marine. In some cases, warrior's spirit was broken by a certain incident, which led the individual to renegade attitude and disgrace to the former authorities. Radical and ruthless acts of Imperial organs such as Inquisition might have shocked the warrior, as the darker, merciless side of the Imperium was drawn visible. At some point ignorance takes over and it's all about survival without morale or faith. Forming small groups at confrontations, these wanderers fight together, without any bonds or deals of any kind, but slowly learn to trust each other nevertheless. On an unknown date of the forty-first millennium, a group of these bitter and lost warriors eventually came together, and it was former Captain of the Iron Hands who finally united the warband under one flag.
The Captain did not ask for leadership. The Marines did not seek for a leader. It was some kind of strange military natural selection which led to the loose organisation in the Liberators force. In the end all warriors had once been links in a chain of command, being either leaders or those obeying the orders of their superiors. In lethal conditions of the galaxy in war, even the rebellious acknowledge the need for a commander. For long time it was all about a journey from sector to the following sector, holding against threats and menace of both Traitorous and Imperial. Being renegades and having let down both the Emperor and Dark gods there was no safe haven for the Liberators. Being asked, none could have cared less. Even in the case of appearance of former brothers in arms anyone would have shrugged and brought his Bolter ready.
The unification was unpredicted, but altogether opened the eyes of many warriors to a purpose once more.
The details of the incident go mostly unrecorded, but it is known The Captain had a confrontation. Some think it was a vision, others whisper about a physical meeting. What is certain is that one night The Captain arrived to the Liberators encampment, confused and his iron gauntlets shaking from shock. The Captain had never been a loud commander, usually directing the battle with silent orders to his Sergeants, but on this night he spoke. He was given a quest, a divine power blessing their actions with promise of better. The blesser told the captain the truth of the galaxy where Imperium and all other factions, including those of Chaos, were rotten by corruption and insanity and would finally vanquish all life. The End of everything could only be stopped by destroying all of the corrupted authorities. Listening to his words few couldn’t help wondering if their Captain had been touched by the Emperor, but not of the Imperium which acts they had witnessed through the decades. The Imperium that was corrupted, rotten and black in its soul, directed by greedy and selfish individuals. Instead the Emperor of the True Order of the galaxy, the leader they long ago had faith in. In the twisted thoughts of some of the once fallen the image of their Warmaster speaking beyond death came clear, the final Liberation being at hand.
The Captain was determined. Bearing a Master-crafted Firearm-relic to sight he stated their bitterness and anger had to been taken into service once more. If the galaxy had one hope of peace and freedom, it was on their shoulders. Justice and possibility of life without threatening, tyrannical authorities had to be given, liberty from dictatorship could be achieved by blade. It was a crusade against authorities, a quest to bring down those who without right held the power over the fate of many. Crude and lost warriors had to push their disappointment and ignorance aside for the galaxy. The Captain was the first one to vow his oath for the Liberation.
It started as small raids to gain armour and armament reserve for a larger campaign. Infiltrating the civilian society, the Liberators executed dictating High officials, merciless Imperial Governors or feared Planetary Lords drunk on their power. Sometimes examples were made so none would dare to continue their ruthless work. By spreading propaganda and assisting sub-organisations within the citizens Liberators didn't necessarily have to take the fight to the corrupted themselves. Small minds were easily filled with faith of freedom and democracy. Many systems were indeed liberated by the power of their people. Each accomplishment added to the spirit and strife in search of galactic liberty.
"In some point we all have to make a choice between Loyalty and Freedom. It´s just that is your choice for some distant authority, dictator, never getting his hands dirty. I fight for a cause. And it is my personal choice."
- Sergeant 1st Class Brother Exion, Liberators 5th SFG
In the following years Liberators fought on many fronts, avoiding engaging in a battle for too long. Their strikes were sudden and coordinated, each aiming for the head of the beast. Governments fell and Military commanders met their end as result of the Liberator's actions. The Captain decorated brother Recos, formerly of Salamanders chapter, with a special Seal of Liberty for sniper assassination of Chaos Sorcerer Lord Aasghar, which brought entire city of spell-bound people to their senses and ended cultist activity for good as angry mob turned on the heretics. Success was to continue as a carefully set trap by two Liberator squads brought Ork Warboss Krom Gitslayer between hammer and anvil and led his Waaagh into total disarray. A Space Marine commander of Relictors Chapter met his end as his command Rhino was annihilated by melta-explosives, detonation controlled by Liberators Recon team. After hearing of the status of Tau Ethereals, Ivory towers of the nearby colony felt the wrath in the name of Liberators' Greater good. It seemed that Captain kept on having visions, perhaps in his dreams on the short periods the legionnaires spent resting. The tasks and orders, given by the figure The Captain nowadays refers as the Overlord in radio discussion, led Liberators through systems with zeal.
"I wont waste my passion and capability to defend the views of some self-proclaimed leadership. Some of us have greater destiny than dedicating our lives for something that doesn't exist."
- The Captain, Liberators Renegade legion commander
The actions of the Liberators could be described heroic, even epic. Their swift performance in the name of freedom with no strings attached seems like the justice finally coming true. However there are some factors that arouse suspicion within the ranks of the Legion and those who witness their deeds. The Captain has recently kept his thoughts and plans close to him in increasing amount, informing of the mission details just on a 'need to know basis'. When joining combat he never leaves his huge, Runic Gun-Icon behind. Roaring with pure power its core shines blue from raw energy and fierce dance of lightning. When fired its obliterating blow is unforgiving, sending the Captain's target into its doom, enemies practically vanishing from sight leaving only their screams echoing in the surrounding terrain. Leaving only havoc behind from his violent acts for freedom, the eyes of the Liberators' Commander burn on the same flame as the muzzle of his precious weapon.
What drives the Captain is known only by himself, but whatever is behind his determination has secrets untold and much to offer.
