Is WFB and 40k alive and well in Turku?

In a couple of months time I'll be free again to start playing again, and would like to know what the situation is here. I've popped into the gaming club a couple of times, but its been all warmahordes.
I haven't played a single game of 8th, nor 40k for a long long time. Is it worth me dusting off my armies, or should I just join the other crowd?
Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere.
Thanks

The people running those games will propably tell more, but I can say that 40k is atleast alive if not exactly well. There's a campaign going on, and there have been atleast half a dozen people playing in it on recent thursday nights. I don't know what the situation will be a couple of months from now, but I just got back into 40k myself and I certainly hope it'll stay active.

Ok thats good to know. What point level are you/ they playing at? Also any list restrictions ie special characters, unit caps eg. two of any rare etc.
How hardcore do people play here, is it WAAC or fluffy bunnies?

WHFB 8th edition is running on mondays and there sadly has been a shortage of players for quite a while now. Which means all new players are extremely welcome!
Preferred game size has been 2000 or 2400 points because it's very easy to check the percentage that way but it's also possible to play games of any points value. Janne ("Crescent" on this forum) has been taking care of the monday WHFB gaming nights and he's prepared to teach new players.
Tuomas "VeZuri" is taking care of 40k gaming night on thursdays. Ask him for more information here:

Players' skills vary so it's usually good idea to agree beforehand on what kind of match you're going to have (WAAC or fluffy). Or to bring two different level of lists and agreeing on which to use at the club.
BTW, you may join Ordo right away if you want to. Just ask for further instructions.

40k campaign games are 1750 at the moment. It's officially either that or 1500, although other game sizes are possible. No restrictions.
I've had the impression that the current 40k crowd is slightly on the fluffier side and most of the tournament orientated players have switched to Warmachine. I'm certainly very cute and fluffy, since I barely know to current rules and play Necrons or Deathwing... =)

Some good info there, thanks guys.
I can manage 2400pts in WFB easily, but need to sort out a rulebook. I refuse to buy the Tombtm, which means I'd have to buy the IoB set and sell off the models. (Anyone thats interested let me know, I only want cost price, and postage if applicable.)
With regards to 40k I'll have to decide which army to update. I've got Eldar, Orks, and a growing Blood Angel force. However, I really fancy the new Dark Eldar. Any current players out there do let me know what you play, so I can help decide.

Last weeks line-up was, I think, 2x Eldar, Dark Eldar, Blood Angels, IG & Necrons.

Thats a shame about everyone else having the same army as myself. How about the fantasy side?
I did leave my details with someone about yearly membership, and he said he'd contact me when renewal came up. I haven't heard from him though.

The "renewal" will be att the change of the month, so don't yet be worried.
Welcome to the gaming scene in Turku!

Warhammer Fantasy days have been a bit quiet lately, but the armies that have been played during the last couple of weeks are Empire, Lizardmen, Warriors of Chaos, Demons and Ogres.
I'll PM you about membership.

Got your PM, I'll sort that asap.
I've got darkelves, lizzies, woodies, and a beastmen army thats almost fighting fit. So fantasy would be a cheaper option for me as I'd only have to pick up a rulebook.
I just need to finish off my ammatti then I can focus on serious things again. :)

Just trying my hand at threadmancy, so please excuse me! I'd use the edit button, but I doubt anyone is now perusing this oldy.
Anyways, I've got some follow up questions for you.
1. Does anyone have a copy of the small 8ed. rulebook they want to sell cheaply
2. Are the points set at 2400 for WFB, and 1850 for 40k, and
3. When do the TurkuFanatic, in autumn, go on sale?
I'm pretty sure I'll play with my darkelves in fantasy, IF I play, and tbh I'm undecided regarding 40k. I've just about got my DarkEldar list together, and don't really fancy shelving them because somebody else has them too. Also IIRC the the other DE player ran a wwp list, where as I've got a flyer focused list, which should allow for two of us in a small club.
Ideas, comments etc most welcome.

It's usually 1750 for 40k.
I think having multiples of the same army is pretty much unavoidable, especially with the newer codexes like DE. I guess mirror matches can be a little boring, but other than that I don't think it's much of a problem.

Coolio, 1750 makes things a little easier on the wallet too. I just need a frantic week, or two to get my models to at least the 'grey camo' stage. With that I'm off to buy some glue, and supplies.

WHFB games are usually 2400 points, but it's possible to play other sized games too.
Turku Fanatic tickets will be on sale when the rules packages are published and that won't propably be any time soon. I'd quess that the tickets come to sale two or three months before the tournament date.
