I bought a 10-box of Mantic's elves some time ago. I can't decide which one of these I'm going to paint. So in the name of "cultivating a community spirit where the contestants would communicate with each other", I'm asking your opinion.

The first one is quite static but I like it anyway, the second is dynamic but I'm not sure about the pose and the third is my attempt to transform a spearman into a hero (or something).

I'm going to make the armor colored and super-shiny using nmm techniques. Something like this or this.

Go with the third one - nice GS work on the cloak!

I agree, it's nice. I'm going to remake it, because it needs to be outstanding to beat you! :)

The center fold is too tight in the cape, I can't paint a freehand in there. It was already like the 10th cape I made for the figure... Well I still have some GS left...

I'll probably pick one of my shiny new Ron & Bones miniatures by Tales of War. Not sure which one yet. Most likely it'll be the little guy with the octopus. Most likely it won't be the Barracuda guy as he's almost painted already. And the guy with the anchor is about the size of an ogre. Of course, if I have time I'll paint 'em all and pick the best one...



And that's not shading, I've just been building up the basecoats with some glazes first.

The pictures didn't come out perfect so I had to rev up the exposure slider. Probably something off with the white balance and my lights and camera aren't that great either. There's still some work to do on the skin and the belt. Especially the skin has to be smoothed a little and the belt should be more yellow. Then I'll have to paint the octopus and weapons. It's coming along nicely though. About three to four hours of painting done so far.

Here's mine entry, converted Hammer Guardian from Gamezone (lad on the right). The shield's rim just need some fixing. I just hope I have some time to paint it and show up the pics since I'm moving to southern Finland in this week and I'm not sure when I get the connection back to the cyberspace.



But the color theme will be blue tinted winter night. Although I'm somewhat unsure with the lantern since I'm yet quite inexperienced with OSL and I'll also have to do the lighting effect into the snow... yeah. Baking soda will surely be pretty interesting to paint/ink/wash/something-like-that. Oh, and the plan for the base is the most original, unique, clever and never seen before: hero standing on a rock!

Joonatin - Ron and Bones? Your miniature gaming ADHD is as bad as mine, it seems =) A brilliant little dude you're painting, btw - so full of character.

Jarva - now that's a properly dour dwarf! With a properly big hammer to boot. Very ambitious with the OSL on the snow but seriously, I'm most excited about seeing the rock!

I really should have WIPs by now, but I have a flu and have been unable to muster the strength to begin painting yet. I did gap fill the mini, though.

I could jump in the competition with some infinity mini (got bunch of nomads and yu yings) or some BattleTech mech if its ok, they are about 28mm tall and fit on bases about the same size as the basic 25mm base.

Bad news - I probably can't do the Manhunter because of the heatwave here (resin becomes impossible to shape) and his right hanging thing is really bent.

Oh wow, that's certainly one problem that won't be facing any of our Finnish contestants... Bummer, though. Just don't take too long to choose ;)

Such a nice conversion!!! I haven't really liked the Gamezone minis before - maybe I have to re-visit them... :-)

Almost ready to paint. I still need to sand the cape behind the spear, do something for the spear itself and remove the greenstuff from his hair. And some other small things. Nothing is glued yet.

And then there is the base... Only some rough ideas so far.

The plan is to paint the armor super shiny, and the cape and the flag quite matte. Freehand to the cape, the flag and the shield. And only 17 days to do everything! (For those who don't read my blog/gallery, here is something i practiced for the shield.)

I'm not sure how to paint it though. How does this sound: I paint the cape separately, atleast the underside. And also the back of the elf. After that I attach the cape, paint the rest (and touch up the underside/back the best I can reach, to make everything match). Any comments?

I love the tiger pattern - it is hard to get that down (I've tried on my Khalimans) but I really think you nailed it! The cape also looks great and I like how it blows in the same direction as the banner (something a lot of people do wrong) - maybe add a few strands of hair blowing in the same direction as well (it looks like it is a pretty strong wind so a few strands might have escaped).

I hope to have an update on my mini mid week!
