It happened that Norse Gaelic warband failed to come to the battlefield at the appointed time and forfeited the battle.
So my Scotsmen were victorious without ever meeting their opponent.

Victory for Allah's warriors.
Mounted units hit hard against Mutatawwi'a warriors. But when two units managed to have one survivor each, I was able to keep generating saga dices and turn the tide of the battle.

I think we will prolong thw third round till next Wednesday as this week end Ropecon took three days away from many of our players.

That was one bloody and epic battle! Jarl Thorfinn Shieldbraker and his hirdmen defended the center hill to the last and repelled assaults of the Irishmen wave after wave. In the end the last man standing on the center hill was jarl Thorfinn. Thus in the end the Danes controlled the center hill as well as the hill positioned on the left side of the table while the Irishmen sternly held the woods positioned on the right side of the table. Both warbands achieved exactly 61 victory points concluding the game into draw. From the hills and from the woods both warbands found pieces of the rich treasure, that they now must transport safely back home...

But how it ended for Manninen and HeresyBrush, who played their game yesterday? Report your game and I will roll the new pairings of the fourth round.

Oh well, its already Thursday, so I will roll the new pairings. I have marked Mannine's and HeresyBrushe's game as a win for Mannine as I've heard the Anglo-Danes won the day. I have also updated the ranking of players into the first post.

Round IV: A Long Way to Home
Luck has not been kind for everyone. For others it granted vast treasures of Devonshire, hidden deep into green mounds of that land. For others, it offered only blood and mud. Regardless of what this adventure offered, the warbands must now drag themselves and their treasures back to safety before others others can steal them. On the other hand, for those who were left empty handed by the race for the treasure, this is now time to steal the treasure from tired guards and avenge the slain kin.

Scenario: The escort (from original rulebook)*
* Saga uses abstract line of sight-system so the baggage trains can be proxyed by using anything that has a base between 4cmX4cm and 5cmX10cm.

Aleksis Meaney (A. Meaney here on forums) is coming here in Joensuu next week and he asked if we would like to play few games of Saga with him on Wednesday or Thursday. Aleksis is the guy who very much introduced me to this game and was the game master of great Crescent & Cross Jerusalem-campaing in which I was playing in Helsinki this spring. If you can spare few hours on eather day, come to Fantasiapelit and play with him. Its nice to see new faces around here and even nicer to have them play with us this great game. Aleksis too, would like to play against new opponents. So even if I'm going to Fantasiapelit next week's Wednesday and Thursday, you should too. =)

Victory for the Rus!

The Gaels tried to escort their baggage train to safety, but were met with bitter cold and looming darkness. Pechenegs surged forward and peppered one of the wagons with arrows. The enemy retaliated by charging forward, engaging the horsemen and cutting them down. After the unit that had killed the Pechenegs was killed in return, the game bogged down. My troops moved slowly forward and the snow fell, while the Norse-Gaels huddled around their two remaining wagons.

Winter-hardened Slavs and Varjags waited for the enemy to exhaust themselves in the snow and then finally charged forward. After a few melees my Warlord managed to charge first one of the Wagons with a unit of Slavs and then another alone. Both were cut down before the Norse-Gales had time to react again.

A long and a bloody battle, with victory earned once again with the completely realistic "Summon Winter" -spells of the Rus.

The Irish warband set out to keep the battle crazy Norse Gaels at bay, and did eventually succeed. Some great feats of heroism were seen when one warrior killed the Irish warlord against all odds, and after that an Irish bonnacth avenged his fallen warlord by killing the Norse Gael warpriest in an epic duel.

All in all a very fun game, thanks Jere!

Thanks for everyone for participating to this league. It was nice to get so many people to try a new game. =) I hope we could maybe play some bigger multiplayer games later in the summer.

Also, there's a big Saga-tournamet happening in Helsinki. Guys there have specifically wished that gamers from Joensuu would participate. I will post a thread about that later though.

We finally got to play our last game!
There was some difficulties to match our schedules at first, but now we luckily found the time.

Great portion of the game was trying to remember all the rules.. As usually :P
But all in all, there was some good scheming and maneuvering on both sides and at first our war bands were evenly matched. However, during the last couple of rounds, my Scots got the upper hand and made mash potatoes out of their foe. (Big thanks to the Scot battle board that I used properly now the first time).

As you can see, three most successful generals were Stuka with his muslims, DraSa with his Scots and Entrooppi with his Pagan Rus. Muslims and Scots share the first place. Congratulations for the winners! Come Monday, I will drop by in Fantasiapelit and discuss about prizes for all the three winners.

Even if the league is ended, Saga games can continue. Both in July and August I for example have time to play bigger tag team games if people are interested and in September, there is a Saga tournament held in Helsinki where players from Joensuu have been specifically requested to participate. And if you guys so wish, there could be another Saga league in Fall. Certainly there is a demand for sword&arrow-games in the scene and who knows, maybe we could get few new players interested in Saga.
