Plenty of drivers spend their first few hours tearing across mainland Japan, then pause when they spot the separate landmass tucked away to the south-east. It looks close, but the game won't let you simply blast over there. Legend Island is built as a late-game reward, not a casual detour, and by the time you're chasing it you'll probably be stacking FH6 Credits from races, stunts, and repeat runs without even thinking about it. The catch is that access is tied to proper Horizon Festival progress, so sightseeing alone won't do the job.
What Legend Island actually offers
Legend Island works almost like a second layer of the game. Once you reach it, you're not just getting a pretty new road or two. There's a separate Festival outpost, extra races, more PR stunts, fresh boards to smash, and events aimed at players who've already learned the map well. The roads are tougher too. You'll find fast freeway stretches, awkward bends, coastal routes, and tighter sections where a sloppy tune gets exposed quickly. It's the sort of place where an overpowered car can still feel messy if you haven't set it up properly.
The real unlock path
The main thing to remember is this: Discover Japan progression doesn't open Legend Island. A lot of players waste time there because it feels connected to the map's story, but the island is locked behind the Horizon Festival system instead. You need to build your way through the wristband ranks until you earn the Gold Wristband. That means collecting 32,500 Horizon Festival Points first. After that, you still have to complete The Colossus. Only when those pieces are done does the island properly open, so it's not a quick evening job unless you've already been grinding hard.
Getting points without burning out
If you want to move faster, don't just jump into every long race you see. Mix things up and lean on the events that pay out progress quickly. Speed Traps, Speed Zones, and Drift Zones are usually worth doing early because they're short, repeatable, and easy to improve once you know the route. Winning races still matters, of course. First-place finishes push your progress along faster than weak results, and they help keep the credit flow healthy. Still, it's smart to avoid turning the grind into a chore. Do a batch of stunts, run a few races, tune a car, then move on. That rhythm feels far better than forcing the same event for hours.
Be ready for The Colossus
The Colossus is where the game checks whether you're actually prepared. It's a long endurance race around the wider freeway system, and it punishes small mistakes more than most events. A car with huge top speed but poor braking can become a headache. A grippy AWD build with stable handling is often safer, especially if you're not trying to win by pure speed alone. Upgrade tyres, sort the gearing, and test the brakes before you commit. Once Legend Island is open, it becomes one of the best places to test serious builds, expand your garage, and make better use of your favourite Forza Horizon 6 Cars across harder races and cleaner high-speed routes.
