Seer got to be my general. He opted fury of khaine and flames of phoenix, ring mage got fireball and fiery blast and other got fireball and wall of fire. Lots of magic missiles should prove usefull against daemonhorde. Opponent had:
great unclean one
exalted daemon w/breath weapon
3x15 plague bearer
3xnurgling
7xfury
spawn
Terrain was few hills and forrests scattered. Mostly of no concern as the hill RBT's could have deployed on was too close to his flyers by the time it was their time to deploy. Deployment:
high elves. left to right.
small helm block, eagle, big helm block, spears w/seer, jewel mage, swordmasters, ring mage, charriot, charriot, helm block. RBT's behind helms.
chaos. left to right.
furies behind hill, plague bearers, plague bearers, exalted daemon, nurglings, GUO, spawn, plaguebearers
Then I won the first turn(yea!).
High elves 1st:
I could have stood back, let them come and blast them with magic. But how much fun is that? ONWARD! Small helm block on left moved so that furies couldn't sneak past them(this to ensure my RBT's have longer life span). Eagle front of left plaguebearer block, big helm block followed, infantry full speed ahead, charriot's and helm forward 9". Magic. 3 dice from banner, fireball resulted in miscast and magic phase ended...Shooting. 2 RBT at spawn, 1 wound. Charriot's did nothing. This didn't start too well...
Chaos 1st.
Exalted to side of big helm block. Nurglings front of plague bearers blocking helm's from charging big blocks. Spawn moved toward big helm block. Furies moved front of small helm block on left. Some other random moving. Magic. 4 helm dies to d6 S4 no save spell(double 1 on dispel...). 1 spearmen dies in shooting to exalted's breath.
High elves 2nd.
To summarise situation. Grim. Big helm block has no real good target so they back off. So do spears and swords(attack plan got big setback last turn). Small helm block on left charge furies. Both charriots and helm block on right tries to charge plaguebearers there but only one charriot passes fear test...Crap. Eeagle moved front of GUO(this would prove to be good move later). Magic. 7 plague bearer from leftmost block dies, ring goes out. That's about it. Shooting. RBT's had no LOS and I forgot GUO is large target, thus targetable despite lots of units between us. This would prove COSTLY mistake(then again, it might have done no difference with my luck in this game). Combat. Furies held rather well. Infact I lost 2 knights in the charge! On right I lost combat against plague bearers and ran barely enough to stay alive.
Chaos 2nd.
Plague bearers on right charged fleeing charriot which fled. They redirected into second charriot which also fled. Not good. Exalted flew behind my army(causing terror checks for 2 lonely mage in process). Spawn charged eagle and I failed fear check(no suprises). No other movement of note. Magic was total failure. No need for dispel scrolls
High elves 3rd.
Not much of an option here. Helms just have to charge against nurglings. Passed fear check. Terror tests on spearmen, both lone mages and swordmasters all passed(phew). Charriots rallied. Helms on right moved to side of plague bearers. 2 remaining helm on left rallied(and I promptly forgot them for rest of game as they were middle of casualty pile...). Spears and swords keep retreating. In magic I caused 3 wound on exalted champpion(yea!) and dropped few plague bearers on right. On shooting RBT's tried to finish the exalted but only wound caused was saved(oh dear). Combat. Nurglings went poof and I overran into plague bearers. Eagle dies.
Chaos 3rd.
GUO tries to charge flank of silver helms but fails as distance is too great(had the eagle not been on front of GUO earlier it could have headed toward them straight. Now he had to go around which costed him movement). Other plaguebearer block did join combat(probably for sake of US). Furies charge left flank of spears, exalted right. Crap. I still had general there! Atleast it was on the side with furies but still...Spawn charged into swordmasters who failed fear check. Magic. Needed to spend both scrolls this time(one to save mage, other to keep WS of spears intact). Combat. Big helm block causes minimal damage, both units intact. Spears hold of nicely and only one spearmen dies. In return I kill 1 fury reducing them to US4. End result was 1 more fury dying as well as exalted daemon. Yea! Swordmasters lost bunch of guys, lost by 1 and ran. Atleast they outrun them but there went banner of sorcery...
High elves 4th.
Charriots and helms try to charge plaguebearers, again other charriot failed fear check. Swordmasters rallied. Magic & shooting. I started pouring all available magic and shooting at GUO. Whopping 5 wound caused but hardly enough to save helms. Combat. Plaguebearers on right hold just nice against charge(8 wound caused, 3 got through...) as do on left(helms are in trouble). And spearmen killed 2 furies, remaining didn't hit anything and went poof.
Chaos 4th.
GUO charges flank of big helm block. I pray for failed panic test...And they fail! YES! For once I fail LD check on right time. Laughing at plague bearers helms ran away from GUO staying nicely out of range
High elf 5th.
All fleeing units rallied par small helm block on right which fled mighty 3". Other charriot joined the combat with second charriot. Spearmen backed off. Magic & shooting. I keep pouring fire at GUO(what a light show it must have been. At this point it has taken 8d6(which resulted in way above average numbers) S4 hit and 24 RBT shot) but only 3 more wound were caused. He's still running with 2! Combat. Charriot charge fails big time, both flees. He runs toward the one fleeing at my board edge(there's mage out there!) but fails to catch charriot.
Chaos 5th.
Plaguebearers on right charges the fleeing charriot which run offboard. Redirect into mage who flee 6" and is barely on board. Plaguebearers on left reform into deeper formation. Magic. Nothing. Shooting. Nothing.
High elf 6th.
All fleeing units rally. Big helm block charge smaller plague bearer block(only 8 remaining) on left. Spearmen backs off trying to get out of reach of GUO. Magic&shooting. Yet more magical fire(another 3d6 S4 hit and 12 RBT shot) and...He stayed alive...ARGH! 1 wound remaining and GUO stayed alive...Pathetical. 3d6 S4 hit(again above average number) can't get more than one 6 to wound and 12 RBT shot doesn't even hurt it...This one decided the game(why oh why I forgot to shoot at him on turn 2). In combat plaguebearer block holds(I didn't even cause casualties!) though loses 2 to instability.
Chaos 6th.
Spawn charges one mage. No other charges. Magic. General dies(barely) to GUO magic missile(failed to dispel) and in shooting breath from GUO panics the spearmen(crap). In combat mage dies.
End result. He won by 120+ pts so draw. My 6th turn decided the result as the GUO surviving was roughly 1000 pts swing on his favour(half GUO+general, my general not dying, spearmen not panicking, possibly even spawn dying(it was only on one wound) which would have saved my other mage). But fun game overall
