Terrain was EXTREMELY dense, set up by third party. 2 forrests in line roughly in his side of table(but outside DZ) and something like 4 hill(one had 3 out of 4 sides as impassable) around center area as well. Interestingly only terrain in either sides DZ was hill on my area...Apart from giving practically unlimited range for each of his life spells 2 most important features were forrest on his left(my POV) and center. Deployment:
Chaos. Left to right:
general, shaggoth, knights, charriot, tusgor charriot, charriot, marauders top of hill(and front of center forrest), beast screen screening the warrior units.
High elves. Left to right:
eagle, silver helms, lvl 2 mage, gap due to forrest,RBT, charriot, swordmaster, charriot, RBT(both RBT's behind his main line), spearmen(front of center hill), lvl 4 mage, archers(looking at gap between center forrest and near impassable hill), eagle.
With me finishing first deploying(due to winning who deploys first) and both rolling 1's to determine who gets first turn I got to go first. Concidering amount of magic and shooting I could hardly complain
Chaos 1st:
Beastherd OK(not that it mattered). Head forward with warriors following. Marauders headed forward as well. Knights moved forward and bit right, with charriots massing to their right side. Shaggoth and general headed slightly toward left looking toward helms and toward charriots. That's it for my turn.
High elves 1st:
Helms try to charge my general but fail it(drat). No other charges. Eagle on left flies between shaggoth and helms. Eagle on right flies between my horde of infantry but so that only thing that CAN charge is beastherd. Rest of army BACKED off. COWARDS! Oh except mages who both enter nearby forrests...Magic. Master of stone into shaggoth, 2 wounds. I let go rerolls but dispel the uranon's thunderbolt and then miscast stops the comet from coming. Shooting. RBT's nail the shaggoth with single bolts. Both hit, both wounds, 5 wounds in total...Shaggoth ended up VERY dead. Archers let loose and kill 2 ungors. Charriots aim at knights but armour saves the knight.
Chaos 2nd:
General into helms, beastherd rolls 1 so charges the bird(drat. I wanted to get into central forrest to flush the mage out). Warriors move forward as well. Knights head forward at near full speed. I aimed to be close enough to swordies that backing off isn't working but far enough to be out of range...Warrior charriots move so that they can see infantry with beast charriot heading more toward left. Combat. Exalted kills ONE knight(this is bad), loses by 3 but holds. Great eagle dies to combined attacks from gors. Gors stayed there.
High elves 2nd:
Charriot and swordmasters into knights...We measure and swordies are barely in range...By smallest of margins. This is not good. Eagle from left moves to side of my infantry. Damn I hate those birds. Spears shuffle to right a bit(denying other charriot clear LOS to them). Magic. I dispel comet forgetting about rerolls(which would have been nasty concidering the combat that's about to come). Luckily he miscasted and ended magic phase when trying to get the rerolls...Say something about luck. Shooting. Left RBT can't see anything par marauders so kill 3 of them. RBT #2 shoots at charriot and does nothing. Archers kill 5 ungors(ouch). Combat. Charriot starts and kill...2. Not good. Swordmaster champpion challenges so knight champpion responses and kills the offending elf. Three times infact. 2 other swordmaster attacks. Kills none. Commander attacks. Hit once and fails to wound. Hurah! I kill 3 more swordmasters and won by 2 despite losing 2 knights and facing full rank infantry unit! Thank Khorne for those knights. Elsewhere exalted kills 3 more silver helms and holds(he had flank, outnumber, standard and warbanner).
Chaos 3rd:
Beastcharriot into swordmasters, one warrior charriot into spearmens(hey it works for my friend. Maybe it will work for me
High elves 3rd:
No charges. Little worthwhile moving, eagle just flew around. Magic. Comet cast near all 3 infantry units(khorne warriors 2" away, chosen warriors and beastherd both within 1"). Reroll dispelled(I definetly didn't enjoy idea of flank shot hitting and punching through knights). Thunderbolt attempts ends up in too low roll. Shooting. RBT on right shoot at flank of knights, miss! RBT on left(or rather front of knights) shoot volley and kills 1. Combat. Exalted champpion gets challenged by champpion(who had finally moved into contact due to casualties) and chops him apart with total of 3 wounds to him and holds. Beastcharriot smashes elf charriot into pieces(rolling total of 7 impact hits
Chaos 4th:
Comet comes, kills SIX chosen warrior, 2 gors and ungor...Knights into RBT, marauders into flank of spearmen(who opts to flee). Beastherd enters center forrest in attempt to flush archmage out. Chosens keep heading toward archers, khorne warriors turn toward left in attempt to flush eagle away. Beast charriot turns to look at spearmen. Combat. Exalted kills only 1 elf leaving standard bearer alive...As he carried warbanner I lost and finally broke. Damn. Just as he was going to make himself great hero. And naturally concidering my flee rolls he was run down(and wasn't even hard). Knights kill crew and overrun off the edge(another shot into flank didn't intrigue me
High elves 4th:
Mage moves out of forrest allright. Spears rally and turn to look at charriot. Magic. Master of forrest kills bunch of beastmen. Remaining 6 turn to flee(probably thought forrest sweet home only to get scared of "home" attacking them
Chaos 5th:
Knights move to look at RBT. Beastherd rallies. Beast charriot charges into spearelves with marauders trying in as well but being well short. Chosens warriors move front of archers. Khorne warriors head out of sight of RBT. Combat. Beastcharriot loses and is run down...Speedy elves I must say!
High elves 5th:
Magic ends up in miscast for uranon's thunderbolt. After I had opted to save dices to not dispel the comet which was put between beastherd and khorne warriors...Ah well. Atleast knights are safe. RBT failed to kill any knights either while archers dropped yet another chosen warrior(really guys. WHERE did you forget your armour?).
Chaos 6th:
Comet comes and kill 2 gor. Rest ran away. Chosen warriors into archers, knights into RBT crew which flees to safety(drat). Combat. Chosens kill 3 archer, rest run offboard but I couldn't pursue off the edge as well(oh dear. Nasty hill nearby).
High elves 6th:
Magic. Master of stone into warriors. 9 hits, 3 wounds and I save 2...Phew. Standard bearer still alive! Uranon's thunderbolt into knights. I rolled 1, 1, 1 and 2 for dispel...Only 2 knights died...Standard bearer still alive!
Game over. End result was draw with elves having upperhand in points.
2 critical events. Swordmaster charge failing utterly and silver helm combat. That would have been roughly 400 pts swing when I was broken in the end. Though to be fair I should have broken long time ago
And again shaggoth died though not nearly as embarassingly as in last game.
