Tuossa eilen illalla kirjoittelin tuommoisen battle reportin toissaillan pelistä.

Yesterday i played one of my best games so far. Not that it had been tactically great or i have had the blessing of dice gods, but i had a great fun playing, as my opponent did too, and that's the most important part of the game.
The game was a pitched battle, Lizardmen versus Chaos Khorne/Undivided, 3000 points on each side.
My army had:
Characters:
-Slann with Bane Head, Power Stone and Battle Standard (475)
-Saurus hero with Sword of Hornet, Mark of Chotec, Light Armour and Shield (leading unit of spearsaurus) (154)
-Saurus hero on cold one with Mark of Chotec, Stegadon Helm, Great Weapon and Light Armour (leading unit of Saurus cavalry) (174)
Core:
-20 saurus warriors with full command
-19 saurus spears with full command
-10 skinks
-10 skinks
-3 jungleswarm
Special:
-4 kroxigor, one of which is a champion
-4 salamanders
-5 saurus cavalry including champion and standard bearer
-5 terradon
Rare:
-10 chameleon skinks
-Stegadon
Totals:
Characters 803p (135p of which magic items), core 910, special 870, rare 415
His army had:
Characters:
-Chaos Undivided lord on Chaos dragon (general)
-Chaos Khorne lord on Juggernaut leading unit of Chosen Knights of Khorne
-Exalted Champion oh Khorne also in unit of Chosen Knights
-Undivided sorcerer of Chaos (only a scroll caddy, so it wasn't too much against fluff)
Core:
-12 chosen warriors of khorne with two hand weapons each
-8 or so chosen knights of khorne with warbanner (and two heroes here)
-2 chariots of khorne
-7 or so chaos hounds (eek!)
-about 20 undivided chaos warriors as sorcerer's bodyguard
Special:
-10 chaos furies
His character total was a lot (1000+), and fighty characters had some shiny stuff also (the dragon guy had chaos runesword and armour of damnation i think, i can't remember what the others had)
As you can propably see from my roster, i wasn't going magic 'eavy. Against Khorne it just takes too much points to get enough magic. He had more dispel dice than i had power dice! I took 4 salamanders in hope kill some chosen before they reach combat, and i took some skinks just to try killing dragon and prevent marching (i had this itch that he would take a dragon, that's why). For my bad there wasn't enough terrain to scout into, but at the end it didn't make much difference. I had a lot more troops than he had, so after he had finished his deployment i had all my hand-to-hand troops except saurus spears to deploy. I didn't put slann in a unit because he has a lot better chance to survive if he is on his own.
The battlefield (4'x6') had not too much terrain on it. There was one little piece of ruins far on the left t flank (from my point of view), a small a foot left from the center of table, and a bigger jungle piece with a high elf tower in it a foot right from the center of table. A circle of standing stones was at my right flank, and both deplyment had a small hills somewhat in the middle of deplyment zones.
Deployment from my point of view (left to right):
On left flank there was one lonely salamander facing chosen warriors, then there was this small woods with unit of skinks in it, and chameleons behind the wood. His deployment zone didn't have enough room to fit my chameleons into, and didn't want to put them into open. Then there was my unit of saurus cavalry facing two khornate chariots (my hero had a great weapon), then unit of 20 saurus warriors facing 7 hounds (what the heck?), then three salamanders on a hill. A unit of skink skirmishers were near the hill also (i had to deploy them somewhere to play time during deployment phase). In front of hill there were saurus spears, facing undivided warriors. Slann was walking(?) somehere there also. On my right flank there were jungle swarm, steggie and kroxigor facing the feared chosen knight of chaos. Terradons were also there to fly next to the chaos knights and therefore prevent marching, if i got the first turn. The idea on my right flank was to lure frenzied knights and characters to charge my row of three jungle swarm, hoping that they would cause less than 15 wounds, and then countercharge with stegadon and kroxigor. Oh and his dragon, it was near the chosen warriors, and of course out of sight from my salamanders, due to being nehind that wood in which i had souts and chameleons.
I can't tell you everything that happened, because we played full six turns and we had a lot of units on the table. But here are some highlight from the battle.
Chaos turn one:
Dragon flies next to the wood, and uses the fiery breaths to burn some scouts and chameleons. I lost half of the cham's, but due to their superior Ld of 6 they passed the panic test.
My turn one:
Terror test for skink scouts and chameleons, as if the flaming breath wasn't scary enough. Chameleons passed the test, but skink screwed (once again we saw how good Ld 6 was). I had to move saurus cavalry full speed ahead to get to hide from dragon (he had a nice LOS to my unit's flank). Afterwards we noticed that i would have had enough movement to charge the chariots, dagnammit! On my right flank i marched jungle swarm towards knights, and terradons landed behind them.
Magic did nothing, thanks to Khorne's shitload of dispel dice. On shooting phase i aimed two salamanders and 20 poison arrows at the dragon, and two salamanders to the other chariot. Both dragon and its rider suffered a wound or two (i think), and chariot was left with one wound, of course. Giant bow snipers shot down one chaos knight.
Chaos turn two:
Dragon charged the unit of saurus warriors, who rolled a nice 11 to terror test and run of the board. As the dragon couldn't redirect to anywhere (it could have charged anything it saw originally because it's large target) it failed it's charge and flew 20" landing in front of my salamander battery! The two chariots charged the saurus cavalry unit, and killed all but hero and standrad bearer. My A5 S7 hero was in base contact with both chariots, but missed attacks against the non-touched chariot. If he had autokilled the chariot with 4 wounds left instead the one with one wound left i had won the combat. Now i lost it badly, and slann proximity didn't help when i fled whopping 5" on 3d6! I thought i was doomed, but he rolled double ones and a two on pursue, and didn't catch me! The furies had charged my lonely salamander, which failed its fear test and fled 3", leaving the fury unit only 2" behind it. Swarms on right flank hold the knight unit by suffering "only" 12 wounds from 3 guys and their mounts.
My turn two:
At this point we thought that camera had been nice, because there were chaos dragon, two units of skinks, unit of chameleons, couple of salamanders, unit of furies, unit of chosen warriors, saurus cavalry standard bearer and saurus hero and one chaos chariot within about 18" diameter. What a nice shot it had been! I had to take some (6) terror test due to chaos dragon, but passed them all thanks to slann. This turn could have changed the course of the game, as i had three salamanders within short range to lord on chaos dragon (hits on 2+!), and stegadon and kroxigor had "the potential" to crush chaos knight unit on my right flank. Well, the dragon left with two wounds, and the lord with one wound. Stegadon charge killed only chaos knight champion, while kroxigor did two wounds two khorny chaos lord (he would have died without 6+ ward), but killed none of the knights. Skinks from the howdah almost killed the exalted champion. I lost the fight obviously, but thank god the swarm still had one wound left so the knight couldn't pursue my steggie and two remaining kroxigor, who didn't even run a lot.
A lot had happened during the first two turns, and a lot happened during the rest of the game as well:
-on chaos turn three undivided warriors and hounds charged into saurus spears unit. Chaos lost the combat by 9 (!), and saurus cought them up. That was the last fought my spearmen saw, because it took some time come back from his deployment zone.
-terradons managed to save steggie and kroxies from chaos kinghts by charging their flank. Terradons are a must against frenzied troops like khorny chaos! Due to their mobility, they can often flank/rear charge frenzied units, then lose combat (obviusly), and forcing frenzied troops to pursue to awkward places and thus taking the most feared units effectively out of game for several turns!
-Undivided chaos lord was killed by skink crewman from stegadon !
-the dragon then killed the steggie (if only i had passed the fear test with kroxigors...)
-Slann finished Khorne Chaos lord in challenge (yes, slann attacked the knight unit without any kind of support)
-slann also managed to zap five chosen warriors on the last turn, thus gaining half of the units victory points
-the best thing with dragon versus stegadon close combat was that when stegadon died, skinks autobreaked. Dragon choosed to pursue them, but rolled 15" and ended up in position where it couldn't charge my slann! If the dragon hadn't pursued the skinks, it had charged slann on its last turn and thus brought enough combat result to propably break my slann
The game ended in draw, something about 1850-1765 in favour to chaos. We both had a great fun, and were happy with the result.
It's odd how i always have fun against this guy, like in the 2000p game where i used steam tank for the first time. I passed only one psychology test of the several i had to take during the game (i passed one fear test, but i couldn't strike back as my whole front rank was killed). Anyway, i won the game with minor victory. King of the hill game against this same guy also had some great looking moments, like 10 chaos hounds and 10 reiksguard knights fleeing towards table edge in single column. Or the lucky cannon user, who managed to kill 9 chaos knights and aspiring champion with two cannon shots in the same game.
