Adar the Moonshade (eng., 40K)

Viesti Kirjoittaja Tylran »

The silence of the Infinity Circuit had a calming effect on the mind of Farseer Adarereientobieltannerath, more commonly known as Adar the Moonshade, one of the most revered Farseers of Craftworld Biel-Tan. He had earned his name when he had served as a Striking Scorpion in one of the thousands of Shrines dedicated to Khaine the Bloody-Handed God. He was hoping to get a new name for his days as a Farseer, but that wish was nothing of true nature or interest.

Adar let his mind wander freely on the Infinity Circuit, sensing all minds of those Eldar who had once lived but now had joined the Craftworld. Adar's mind touched many of their minds. Some were great heroes, Exarchs and Farseers who had lived thousands of years ago. Some minds belonged to ghosts of common artisans, diplomats and artists. Some minds were just a children's minds. Those slain by sword or fire on young age had been guided here to be teached by the spirits of the old. These times were grim for the Eldar. It had been so since the Fall and the birth of She-Who-Thirsts.

The thoughts of this feared Eldar nemesis they had once created in their pride caused fear, hatred and suffering in the souls of Infinity Circuit. Adar quickly dismissed those thoughts in order to let the honoured dead sleep in peace.

With sadness Adar came back to his own body. It took a few seconds for him to get his senses to work as normal. Then he put on his ancient Ghosthelm on and left the chamber. He climbed few stairs up and entered his personal transport. His sister was waiting for him there. "Asuryan's blessing upon you, honoured Farseer", she greeted him. "The gods smile on you as well, loved sister", he replied and sat next to her sister. "I have the honour, bhaderran", he continued. "My thoughts are now with you, as is my soul" he finished his part of the ritual, and nodded. Even thought he was a Farseer, he still loved and honoured his sister enough to lower himself in this ritual. By calling his sister bhaderran, he had basically given her a wide variety of rights that they both knew, and they were stricktly narrowed on this conversation. No mon-keigh could ever understand the complexity of these rituals.

"My heart cheers for this opportunity to speak with you, loved brother", his sister replied and made a small gesture with her hand, giving Adar some insight of her feelings. "Now then, what is the purpose of this pleasant but somewhat suprising visit?" asked Adar, and added: "for I feel that you have an urgent matter you wish to discuss with me."

His sister nodded and laid her hand on Adar's hand. "I have come to you to ask for guidance and solitude only a brother could give", she said with a deep concern and worry echoing in her voice. "Then ask for it", replied Adar and took his Ghosthelm off.

His sister was very quiet at first, but then she started to talk: "I have decided to take a new Path on my life. I was kind of thinking about the aspect of Howling Banshee, but I would like you to cast your runes and see to my future, as I feel that there is something else as well that I should do."

Adar nodded and rose up in the moving transport. He placed his Ghosthelm on his head and started casting his wraithbone runes. The runes started to glow and they circled around Adar. Adar activated those he most needed with his psychic powers and then he waited and examined what the runes could tell.

What he saw was very chaotic. First he saw her sister to take the place in one of the Howling Banshee Shrines. She would be a dedicated and much respected warrior, and she would survive her time serving in the Shrine. Adar noticed a hint of possibility she herself would turn into Exarch was all but possible without proper guidance. Then started the chaotic part.

Thousands of possible fates swirled around him. Most of them were grim or sad, but some would lead her to happiness and joy that would last until the end of her life. What she would have to do was a total mystery still, but Adar's heart felt light for the knowledge that his sister would survive her battles to come.

Adar told his sister what he had learned of her fate and her tension seemed to melt a bit. His sister nodded and then spoke: "It calms my mind to hear that. I shall remember your words, Adar." Adar felt the warmth inside him, called as "love" by the mon-keigh but something that took about fifteen minutes to describe in the Eldar tongue. "I am pleased that my words had a calming effect on your spirit, dear Alanaya", he said.

His sister smiled to him, and that expression made her face glow in a way that even Lileath would have envied her. "Goodbye, dear brother", she whispered, and opened the door of the ship. "Goodbye, my sister", whispered Adar and followed his sister's steps, but only to meet his Warlocks. The future of Alanaya had revealed more than just the future of his sister. Doom was coming.

Lupaava alku, teksti sujuvaa ja mielenkiintoista. Antaa tulla lisää, odotan innolla. Eldareista on täälläpäin aivan liian vähän tarinoita, kaikki tuntuvat kirjoittavan mieluummin kaartin ja/tai mariinien näkökulmasta.

The Times of Awakening

Viesti Kirjoittaja Tylran »

The silence and darkness were everything. The silence had been everything for millions of years. Air temperature was low enough to kill any living being. But those who dwelled there were not living...

Adar casted a few more runes to sharpen the image of his vision. In a few seconds the picture sharpened.

Empty tomb, with metallic critters big and small moving here and there, maintaining the arcane technology there. Black caskets with glowing symbols. Some of the caskets sent a creeping chill up Adar's spine. They were empty, way too empty. But some of them were opening, as metallic warriors stepped out of their stasis tombs, ready to sought destruction to entire galaxy. And the face of a hooded god, radiating malice, insanity and absolute evil.

Adar ended his vision. He stood there for a while, shaking, until his feet gave up and he had to find support from his Singing spear. His Warlock bodyguard rushed to him, but with a quick gesture he stopped them. The vision had exhausted his body badly, just as seeing the face of his race's oldest enemy had exhausted his mind.

With an effort the Farseer rose up, and gestured one of his Warlocks to approach. "Prepare my vessel and summon the Seer Council and the Court of the Young King", Adar whispered. Even his whispers were filled with exhaustion and pain. "Yes, Farseer", came the quick answer, "are you allright Farseer?" the Warlock continued with worry in his voice. "Yes I am. Just remember, Warlock, that sometimes it is not the unknown that is the most dangerous, but instead it is the known that might threaten us all."

The Warlock bowed and rushed out of the room, while the rest of his bodyguard moved next to him. Adar led them all to his vessel and they moved to the Spire of the Young Kings. The Council had to know about the doom that faced them all, if left uncheked.

The Council and Young King with his Exarchs and Autarchs were already assembled there. Adar quickly took his place and they started their Council with the ancient seremonies. After their rites, one of the Farseers rose and said in a clear voice: "We all have gathered here because of Adar Moonshade's request, and from the urgency of his Warlock's tone I propose that he may speak first."

Before the other Farseer had sat down Adar had already risen and started to talk: "This rather short story begins when my honoured and beloved sister sought guidance from me as she was about to join the Aspect of the Banshee. So I casted my runes to see if her future would suggest it. Thankfully Asuryan was pleased with her decision, and her future seems secured. But I saw a glimpse of something else, which I will show to you all now."

Ignoring the fact that he would reveal his runes he casted them and activated the same runes as before, this time adding a few more so that the rest could see what he had seen. When his vision ended, there was a dead silence. After a few minutes, one of the Farseers rose and said: "Never in the whole history of this Craftworld has anyone dared to talk nor visualize Kaelis Ra. But now this Spire feels and remembers your hideous vision, but that is not concerning me at all. The Necron threat is real, as well as Kaelis Ra's influence. We must assemble the Aspects and Guardians, and even that might not be enough."

"Hold on, dear member's of the Council!" echoed a shout. Tall figure had risen from her seat. Adar immediately recognised her as Autarch Miaa'rean, a pompous and arrogant young Eldar, who had risen to a rank of Autarch because of equal amount of luck and skill. She had a bad reputation in the Council.
"We have only a word of this Farseer, and a picture he might have dreamt of and summoned that before our eyes. We would do ill if we mobilized our troops now. I suggest that we do nothing until we have some proven information of this looming fate of ours."

It was like the whole Chamber had erupted, as all Farseers and many other members stood up to argue loudly, shouting things like "This is an outrage!", or "How dare you suspect a revered and honoured Farseer?!", as well as few mild insults.

Adar waited for a while, before he stood from his seat. "You should know better, Autarch, that I do not spend all my pastime by devicing different horrors to scare every soul on this ship. Even those who have passed witnessed my visions, and even they feared the Face of Death. You would do wisely, if you keep your suspicions to yourself."

Miaa'rean looked like she had been mortally insulted, and she rose from her seat and marched out of the chamber, her Hawk wings fluttering with annoyance.

Adar sighed and turned to the Council, who had already taken their seats. "I promise you, that I do not lie. I will try to find more of this matter, but I cannot promise my success. But if we do nothing, our ancient enemies, the Necrons and their hungry gods will destroy our Craftworld."

For a while no one spoke, but then the Young King, a devout Warp Spider with Dire Avenger and Star Eagle training rose, and spoke with his magnificent and yet pleasant voice: "Recruit Guardians, raise the Aspects and ready our defences. This year we wage war not for hope of great empire, but for the hope of our survival."
