Phew what a weekend. 59 hour from which I slept less than 4 all told. Say something about staying wake...Took my dwarf list, no changes in the end(though concidered swapping crossbow block to great weapon block). Got 5/10 from painting, average. First game. 6 RBT hell(yes cityguard). I thought I was doomed but his luck failed UTTERLY. I won first turn and moved forward, shooting nothing impressive. He responded and...Killed _2_ dwarves. He missed with 3 salvoes in row. Anyone care to calculate odds of 18 4+ roll failing in row? He continued lousy rolling like that all game. Then my stone thrower started to work. First turn, nothing, then 3 turn, 3 bolt thrower. Then lots of cityguard from general block and finally some more and they ran offboard. Hallelujah! It started working JUST when I needed it. That piece won me game. Only unit that reached his lines were runesmith and co and that due to his bad luck. First turn. Cold one knights fail stupidity, second turn they manouver, third turn fail stupidity and shambles into my charge range. Charge, don't break them in first round but then break and pursue into his lines. Hehehe. Daemonslayer drove of dark riders.
Second game. Against lizards with 2 stegadon(I might note there's no fair play or composition scores in this tournament, thus some...Interesting armies were seen). Cold one cavalry w/hero, 2 krox unit, 3 skink unit, 2 skink priest, lone 18" charging saurus hero. My flanks were crushed(crossbows are hardly match for krox's or steggies) but opponent failed to realise how tough dwarves are in h2h. Krox unit charged into slayers(with daemonslayer in it
Third game and by far the best(second was second best). Dogs of war. He had long drong and unit of normal dwarves. Death to traitor dwarves! Extremely closefought game. Highlights include my slayers(including daemonslayer) hacking his slayers(despite their charge) to pieces, his pikes running through warrior block(bloody pistols had reduced me out of rank bonus), my thane fighting 4 turn against pistoliers behind obstacle(didn't want them to flank charge block their pikes charged) and ASB block suffering _20_ hits from pair of grapeshots. Ouch! In the end draw with only 20 or so pts separating us.
With these I had qualified into finals. Then came trick orcs&goblins(my luck. When I face O&G it's annoying trick army). Lord on wyvern, about 5 charriot, one with orc hero, one with goblin shaman, 3 unit of wolf riders, boar riders with hero and 2 giant. This game was one where EVERYTHING was failed, especially LD wise. From both of us. I started nicely blowing 2 charriots. I drew boar riders into charge range of daemonslayer with fleeing crossbows(that I'm particulary proud of) and he alone would hack all par 2+hero in the end as well as orc hero from charriot. Giant was wounded 4 time by 2 cannonball and killed by stand and shoot crossbows. However those crossbows died and this saw runesmith and co run offboard. This was scary as this exposed my general's block(held by charriot which had overrun to them) into flank charge by wyvern. However ASB block managed to panic it by flank charge AND then came neat event. Lord on wyvern panicked and ran offboard. Would have won thanks to this but in final turn giant charged into general block which failed terror test(that dwarf lord is suddenly seeing SO fun like now. Stupid 10) and were run down. Draw.
Final game. Bretonnian's with lots of small lances. He charged in second turn into crossbow screen and then over half of army ran offboard. Didn't even bother to continue after that. Game was in the bag in most boring game of the lot. That dwarf lord is REALLY starting to tempt me.
End result. 50th out of 120 or so. Not that impressive result wise as only victory came through luck. But 2 extremely enjoyable games made up for it
I also played one off game against khemri. Boy is their magic annoying. Catapults just kept coming back. First I destroyed by using my scrolls to stop it from coming and then killing crew, other by shooting both machines and 19 crossbow to it killing the crew. Minor loss eventually due to me stupidly moving runesmith so they could flank charge them with archers(how stupid is THAT!).
