Right...This time he tries out titan I see! This could be tough!
As usual I deployed most of my army before he put any of his formations...For terrain town on right, 2 groups of forrest on left and lots of hills scattered around. I put my marker on town and he put the 2 others on far left(as far away from the one I put as possible). I put markers on his side to left and right(he put on center).
For garrisons I put gunzmob in town(in hindsight left on forrest might have been better place), warlord mob left of them, small foot mob on left.
For reinforcements bliz brigade on right, kult of speeds on left and right and stompa mob on center. He has titan on left behind forrest, sentinels around there in maximum spread, valkyries even more left, super heavies right of titan, regimental HQ at center behind hill and infantry company on right behind another hill.
Turn 1:
I won strategy roll and ground assaulted with landa. I opted to assault infantry company on principle I wrap that flank and move in to left once it's secure. Landa arrives safely and miraculously I won the assault! First time I won it vs IG!!! HUUUUUUUURRRRAH! IG ran of with heavy casualties. Then I let initiave pass on opponent. I have to admit I screwed here. Twice. I should first have gone into overwatch with gunzmob(even with reroll if need be) and then do the ground assault. And might have been better off to assault some more worthwhile target like the super heavy tanks...Ah well.
Next up his regimental HQ moved up, disembarked and blasted my gunzmob apart, leaving only 2 big gunz alive inside the building, rather obviously broken. Never rallied either. Then shadow swords advanced and tried to fire at stompa mob but were out of range(phew).
Stompa mob advanced and blasted bunch of regimental HQ out, warlord mob advanced and continued the barrage but with no casualties(why didn't I shoot at infantry? Leman russes were at front and were quite hard to remove!!!).
Vultures doubled up and killed littlebit of small warband. Sentinels tried to march but failed.
Bliz brigade marched up front of his regimental HQ.
Reaver blasted apart 6 unit from warlord mob.
Then we called the turn. I forgot my kult of speed...Drat. Rallies went OK for me(apart from gunzmob).
Turn 2:
He won strategy roll. Crap! Shadowswords advance and shoot at stompas removing 1 shield. Storm trooper unit engaged and broke my small warband.
Then stompas shoot at regimental HQ killing quite a few. I tried to retain initiave and engage them with bliz brigade but rolled a 1 so was settled to firing. Realising(finally) that infantry is lot softer(and in the open
Sentinels moved next to warlord mob trying to push them out with scout ability.
Both of my kult of speed mobs moved(first advance, second double) next to sentinels and fired at them. Second kult finally broke the last 2 and they never rallied.
Reaver bombarded at stompa mob but was just out of range.
Landa mob doubled toward retreating enemy. Landa came in and caused 1 blast marker to storm trooper mob(in hindsight should have picked the "landa mob" up instead.
Rallies went well for me with his broken mobs remaining so. However his regimental HQ went to my far left on his double retreat move...Crap.
We then checked victory conditions and it revealed that I had 2 objectives vs his 1. I had his right objective + the central one which he set up himself. He only had 2 objectives on my left(neither which I put).
Turn 3:
He won strategy roll, again. Shadowswords engage my warlord mob and break them, killing the warlord! DAMN DAMN DAMN I hate going into firefight. Storm troopers shoot at kult of speed mob #1 killing few.
In return second kult of speed engaged them in firefight and won by 1, killing total of 3 valkyries. Hurah! Second assault won by my orks!
Reaver moved at top of central objective(double) and fired at stompa mob, killing 1 stompa and now mob had total of 3 blast markers...
...which was crucial as they failed advance command, tried to shoot at regimental HQ but only stompa was in range and so was supressed! ARGH!
Landa landed in and grabbed his mob in and flew away.
Bliz brigade sustained fire into reaver but only stripped void shields(darned 4+ rerolled save).
Game went on with objectives 1-0 in his favour. His formations rallied par sentinels.
Turn 4:
I won strategy roll! So landa flew straight in and mob assaulted da reaver! Total of two hits including critical! Only 1 casualty in return! But he rolled 6 vs my 3 so I lost by 1...DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT!
I retained it and tried to advance with stompas again. Only to fail it, AGAIN.
He used reaver and storm troopers to blast my kult of speeds away, breaking both. Infantry company later killed remnants of second.
Warlord mob fired at reaver stripping the shields and causing another damage point.
Bliz brigade fired(failing sustained fire roll) and destroyed the reaver...HURAH!
In the end objectives were 0-0 for both...Damn it
Game ended right there. We calculated vp's and it revealed that I had lost by whopping 700 pts...Ouch. Still. Atleast he hadn't won by objectives alone! Looking at board I had control of right side(the one with the CITY MWAHAHAHAHA!
My mistake #1 was not assaulting shadowswords in first turn landa assault. I would have needed those out. Ah well. Mistake #2 was not going into overwatch with gunzmob. Might have hurt the regimental HQ quite a bit when they came out(first soopas at concentrations of infantry, soopa gun blowing hopefully leman russ and big gunz doing some damage too).
But I'm learning all the time so that's good
