[EA] Orkimedes Gargant Big Mob vs eldar, pelitestaus #1

Viesti Kirjoittaja tneva82 »

OGBM vs eldar. I used following list:

Great Gargant(big mek(big gun->Deth Kannon), orkimedes) 850
Gargant(3xsoopagun) + 2xdreadnought 670
Gargant(mega choppa) + 2xdreadnought 670
Stompa mob: Supa-stompa + 4xstompas(3xbig gunz) 550
Big Snappa mob: 5 killa kans, 5 dreadnoughts 310
Big Snappa mob: 6 killa kans, 4 dreadnoughts 300
Slogga warband: 7 boyz, 3 grots 150

total: 3500

Eldar list:

guardian warhost + 3xheavy weapon platform + 3xsupport weapon platform + 3xwraithlord
storm warhost
aspect host(autarch, 3 fire dragons, 5 howling banshees, 2 falcons, 3 wave serpents)
aspect host(exarch*2, 3 fire dragons, 5 striking scorpions, 2 falcons, 3 wave serpents)
cobra
2 falcon troupes
3 fire prisms
3 nightwings
wraithgate(that he forgot to use)

He didn't know he would face OGBM(and I gave him option of try vs normal orks or OGBM, he didn't mind OGBM so that's what he faced). All I asked was to put atleast one cobra to get some more information on how cobra works(and now there's plenty of warmachines to hunt!)

Terrain was 4 forrests, bunch of hills, stature and hill with crater scattered around board. Plenty of cover for eldar.

I put my trio of gargants(great gargant on left, 3xsoopagun gargant on center and assault gargant on right) heading straight toward his objectives(in hindsight shouldn't have tried to get bliz objective). Slugga host guarding my bliz objective around center, front of shooty gargant was one of the snappa host(5xkilla kan variant), second being on right. Supa-stompa and co were around right as well.

Eldars had fire prisms and 2xexarch host on left, cobra and falcon host in center behind forrest, guardian host right of them, autarch host and then the storm host and falcons on far right.

Turn 1:

Eldars manouvered around but were hindered by amazing number of 1's to work. Stopped night wings, right falcon host and storm host. This with reroll...Anyway while my army surged pretty much straight ahead with little in way of killing(range issue) for my part the eldars used fire prisms to knock 2 shields(from 7) from great gargant, cobra double moved first forward and then back(we used 45cm version btw) and knocked 4 shields out of the assault gargant(out of 6). Little else damage, my supa-stompa weathering firepower with ease. End phase usual ork rallies, eldars rallies. Something to note is that I was STILL left with blast markers. CLEAR difference to reqular ork horde. Lack of leaders=blast markers hard to get rid off, something that hampered me whole game.

Turn 2:

Eldars won strategy roll again and autarch host led assault toward snappa host on right. Thanks to some appaling rolling on my part and first strike of banshees entire snappa host was killed for little casualties. Autarch and co moved forward toward my bliz brigade.

I countered this with sustained fire on both shooty(or was it assault) gargant and supa-stompa. However despite rolling 4+ to hit with macro weapons against aspect warriors INSIDE their transports I only got 1 falcon and their fire prism. PATHETIC!

I later on turn even tried with slugga warband but no luck there either. The other 2 gargants just pushed forward blasting at anything they could see, but not much. Cobra tried to attack but didn't do much. Nightwings and falcons on right attacked my supa-stompa again but once again armour held just fine. Only 1 point of damage was caused(I was rolling 4+ rerolled rolls like there's no tomorrow).

But great gargant was now without shields which didn't promise to be all that good...

End phase was same as before. And so began turn 3:

Eldars won the strategy roll again. He first used transferable regroup to his autarch host(and tried to shoot 3xsoopagun gargant. Was short but DID reveal _I_ was in assault range...) and assaulted with autarch host the slogga warband and slaughtered them with ease. My bliz brigade was now in control of eldars!

I returned with going to overwatch with great gargant and then assaulting the guardian host with gargant. Obviously I broke them and took control of one take and hold objective.

He continued to bombard the supa-stompa with everything he had but to no avail. However I had put MAJOR dent to his plans with the overwatching gargant that now dominated practically entire battlefield. What's crucial it made sure that his cobra, fire prisms and 2xexarch host couldn't try anything at him without going into sight of BP5 barrage and 2xMW3+ titan killer(D3) weapons. Obviously this is very bad idea. So cobra tried to hunt the gargant that had broke the guardian host but no damage was caused(he didn't want to stay in sight so double moved).

My third gargant moved ahead and broke the falcons on left with one salvo by rolling 2 6's out of 3 attacks...Actually orks were outshooting eldars by now! (eldar falcons got TWO hits despite rolling 5 4+ pulse shots and 5 3+ pulse shots!)

Supa stompa mob FINALLY got rid of autarch host. And what a way they did that! 12 big gun shots at 6+ resulted in 5 hits that got 2 transports(and troops inside. Macro barrage got 2 more transports(requiring 6 due to double) and thus only 1 transport(which contained autarch) ran away. That was lucky!

Eventually he decided that he had to sacrifice something to the overwatch and opted first to try with storm host which moved next to objective to ensure I don't win game with that(I had both take and hold objectives). I didn't opt to shoot at them. Then he used fire prisms to be sacrifice. Scratchs 2 fire prisms and remnants ran.

End phase was usual, important thing being guardian host that failed to rally.

Turn 4:

Farseer from storm warhost summoned the avatar who then led the guardian host to engage my assault gargant. Casualties were pretty even(I made mistake and CC'ed instead of FF) and this resulted in gargant being broken.

His 2xexarch host then tried to engage my great gargant! Bold move that NEARLY worked. Out of all hits I got only 2 got past the armour and if his exarchs had survived it would have been victory to eldar. Say what you say about great gargants assault potential this was too close for comfort!

I returned by great gargant doubling and pursued them and blasted them and remaining fire prism apart(got to love barrage).

Soopa-stompa and co doubled toward my lines and got rid of autarch unit(I wanted to ensure and they shall not pass goal).

His attacks this turn was mostly directed at remaining snappa warhost, par cobra that failed to do anything. The firing on snappa host was well deserved though since they tried to march next to bliz brigade and they were only narrowly broken in the end by the falcon host on right. There went bliz objective...

Final action I made was with shooty gargant. I realised to my horror that while I controlled bliz and 1 take and hold objective from my side(grot attack) I hadn't moved anything near second take and hold. Thus defend the flag goal was NOT in my control...I tried to march toward it but failed the 3+ roll and ergo wasn't in range(and no double wouldn't have been enough, we checked it).

With this we tried to rally our units but failed for all. Game ended and thus we looked at situation. Forgetting break their spirit goal we concluded 1-0 on objectives for orks(and they shall not pass, great gargant stopped eldar claiming it). Orks got ~750 pts difference in vp's.

But writing this I remember the break their spirit goal that was most definetly one of the aspect hosts. Doesn't matter which since I vaporised both entirely. So 2-0 victory to OGBM.

Still. Seems awfull hard to claim objectives with the army, as it IMO should be. Multiple gargants provide the army with lots of firepower and resilience. Without doubt it won me the game. Eldars simply couldn't find a way to deal with any of the gargants and only managed to break one gargant in assault(and had I concentrated on gunning down guardians with FF instead of trying to get past avatar's save...).

The game was finally decided probably on 2 things. My ability to keep rolling 6's to blast those vechiles and the overwatch stunt my great gargant pulled on turn 3, which put eldar plans full stop. He couldn't do anything with any of his good units without ending up scrap metal. Though he could have contained the harm by moving with cobra later(since it was mostly against it overwatch was aimed). Still. Have to remember this trick in future. Overwatching gargant is fun, especially one with soopa-zzap gun and deth kannon :D
