Holed in position
´Damn that commissar.´ Julius murmured. After six weeks when they arrived to this damned planet they were posted to the front line. And for what! There haven’t been any sight of ‘skins unlike they should have been here over week ago. Julius cursed, kicking the rubble in frustration.
Suddenly, came piercing shriek.
´Incoming!´ Julius shouted by instinct before he even realised what was it and were already in the ground, covering his head. Small part of the battlements obliterated as the incoming shell hit home.
´Alarm! Alarm!´ somebody shouted over the front line. His squad came like running from the almost collapsed house, Hastings automatically scoping for to see if there’s any green in the ruined city. Julius wondered why there wasn’t anymore incoming shells. He grinned when he heard series of muffled explosions, sound carried over the city’s rubble-filled streets from far away by the wind.
´Orks can’t do anything right.´ Julius chuckled, trying to encourage men around him. He’s face came to deadly serious when the orks bellowed their warcry.
´WAAAAAAAGH!!!!!!´
Then the greentide poured out from houses which were, luckily though, over two hundread metres away. Their bodies swollen by the many muscles they had, their eyes seemed to been ablaze by the infinite hatred which only orks beared against anything, their face twisted in bestial rage, roaring their ear-splitting warcry, firing their crude guns from the hip, deafening noise from their guns didn’t seem to bother them, instead it fed their hatred.
Julius felt a knot forming in his stomach. Orks were narrowing the space between them and the imperial line, they were half-way on it. The heavy weapons of the Imperial Guard had inflicted small casualties on orks. Then the small arms of the guard fired. Lasguns were reliable but weren’t that effective on tough enemies. But it was the amount of the lasfire which mattered. Hundreads of orks fell to the ground, their skin burned by the lasfire or ripped by the heavy weapons. Adolf’s grenade launcher coughed, milli-second later it impacted at the group, killing half-dozen orks. Another bunch of orks fell when guardsmen fired second volley in perfect unision. Orks had caused small casualties at the humans, lucky hits had torn a limb or severed a head from humans, which seemed to encourage the orks.
´Got ‘im!´ Hastings shouted. He had dropped one of the big orks leading one of the mobs. Orks seemed to hesitate but when they saw their mates charging at the imperial line they surged themself forward. Suddenly his sniper cracked in two parts in his hands when lucky bullet hit it, though it saved his life.
´Here!´ Julius shouted over the noise and tossed him a shotgun. Hastings grinned as he pictured himself blowing the heads of those damned aliens who had shot his sniper.
´Close order!´ somebody shouted, orks were at the range of assault. Julius pressed the activation rune on his power sword, it’s humming sound reliefing him. He checked his bolt pistol.
´WAAAGH!!!´ bellowed Skrutta. He was huge and powerful ork. Servos in his power claw whined as he raised it for a strike. He was upon those pathetic humans.
´Die ‘umies!´ he bellowed, bringing his claw down in a deadly arc. He caught two guardsmen with the sweep, turning them into a bloody ruins. Then lean and strong looking human figure stepped up from the earthworks, pointing his sword towards Skrutta as for challenge. He roared as accepting challenge. Human fired his pistol at him but shots just ricocheted from his armour. Skrutta swinged his claw, but was horrified to see his claw to drop to the ground. Figure had so swiftly sliced his claw that he didn’t even notice it. He roared defiantly and levered his gun. Human slashed again, gun splitted in two parts. Skrutta roared in fury as he saw what the human was doing to him, human had tried to humiliate him and it had succeseed. He dropped the remains of his gun and grapped the human with the free hand so it cannot do any resistance. Wide smile spread to Skruttas face, showing his yellowened teeth as he saw the human struggle under his grip.
That annoying ‘umie would die soon thought Skrutta. He felt something putted against at the back of his skull, then everything went black.
Julius gasped for air. Hastings came to him, reloading his shotgun after he had shot the ork in the head. Julius was smeared by the ork’s blood and brains.
´Are you all right?´ Hastings asked as Julius removed some of the gore from his shoulder with a sneer.
´I think so.´ He nodded.
´Most of the orks are dead now, some are still putting up desperate fight and the rest are running now.´ Adolf stated who had now joined them. Julius looked his old friend, he had new scar on his right cheek and his face was tattered with blood, hopefully ork blood which mingled with sweat that run from his forehead.
´Are everyone okay?´ Julius asked. Adolf nodded.
´Look yourself.´ Adolf pointed behind him where Ellard, Brim and Johnson were laughing for something, probably for a joke about orks. Julius sighed with relief and straightened up.
´Guess I have to manage with this now on.´ Hastings sighed, turning the shotgun in his hands.
´Well I think it will prove to be more useful when we start to advance to the city.´ Adolf said. Then, as if on cue the vox came alive.
´This is Commissar Piet, report soldier.´ soldier who carried the vox turned his gaze to Julius, waiting for orders.
´Give the mic to me, soldier.´ Hastings said. Guardsman swiftly detatched the mic from the side of the bulky vox-unit and gave it to Hastings.
´Sergeant Hastings here, sir!´ He replied to mic.
´Tell me your status, soldier.´ came the answer with a hiss.
´Repelled light attack. I suspect that it was the forward force of the orks, we need reinforce. Over.´
´There are 3rd and 4th platoons on a way with tanks. And the 9th chapter of the Blood Angels are less than two weeks away from our position. When they arrive we will start the advance in to the city.´
´Roger that. Over´ Hastings replied and handed the mic back to the soldier. He turned to look at Julius.
´Blood Angels.. The legendary Adeptus Astartes are coming for our aid. It’ll be a short war, I hope.´ Adolf sighed.

Something in the warp kept its mind on the planet Testra III where was the battle against orks. The Thing was powerful, it saw everything what occured on that planet.
´Yessss...´ hissed the dark figure out loud accidentally, though no-one could have heard him. In the dank and dim room there were strange icon at the centre of the floor where the figure stood. Small lightning seemed to play on its skin, it eyes sometimes shot a lightning bolt which in the worst case electrocuted one of its many assistants. It sometimes formed an image from the raw power of the warp. The image showed sometimes useful things but mostly it show mocking and laughing faces of the daemons. The figure snapped out of his trance. He felt bit dizzy and walked smoothly towards the door of the arcane room. He glanced back.
They’ll be more useful in the trance and protecting the ship he thought. Door slid open as he pressed gently on the panel with his palm, the little light what managed to come trough the doors showed nothing but crouched, hooded figures in a row after a row, chanting. One of the figures who got caught by the light was disturbed and was instantly ripped apart from inside by the daemons of the warp. Its scream echoed through the ship, reminding the passangers about the danger of traveling in the warp.
