The Thirty Years' War saw the devastation of entire regions, with famine and disease significantly decreasing the population of the German and Italian states, the Kingdom of Bohemia, and the Low Countries. The war also bankrupted most of the combatant powers. Both mercenaries and soldiers in armies were expected to fund themselves by looting or extorting tribute, which imposed severe hardships on the inhabitants of occupied territories. Gilaelin and I are going to start playing another historical period in the following weeks: the Thirty Years’ War. We have decided to use 15mm miniatures (scale 1:100) and the rulebook Tercios: Liber Millitum.
Therefore, we will be playing once we have got our armies and we’ll be able to do demos to anyone interested in Fantasiapelit :)
We decide to play 15mm because using the same table (i.e. for Warhammer) you can deploy the double of miniatures and the distances and ranges are indeed reduced. This means that rarely you can start shooting or assaulting from the beginning of the game; and therefore, the movement plays a key role when playing this tiny scale. Thus, this implies a new strategy dimension for many of us ;). And of course, 15mm is cheaper than 28mm!
There different 15mm brands producing 30YW miniatures. The price is something like 0,5cts / miniature. And we are planning to use 1500 points armies, which involved about 150-200 miniatures.
-Totentanz Miniatures: I will use these miniatures. Of course, my army is the Spanish Empire!
-Khurasan Miniatures: Gilaelin's army is formed with these miniataures. He is playing with German Protestants. The guy from khurasan is now on Holidays, but if you google "Testudo Miniatures" you can see the 30YW range.
-Old glory
-Essex
-Others: following this link you can see reviews of different ranges

About the rulebook, there are also many possibilities: Field of Glory, Pike&Shotte, DBM: reinassance, Fire&Sword, etc...At the moment, we have got the ruleset to play Tercios: Liber Millitum, a new Spanish rulebook. Gilaelin has the English version of the rulebook, so no problem.
Indeed, you can check a shorter version in English here (however, it doesn't includes the rules for generals or the army lists and points): https://www.dropbox.com/s/amxhqrr98vimc ... 9.pdf?dl=0
This game is very simple and fast. It's played with order cards, which determine the action of the different units. And then you resolve the combat and different situations using normal d6 dice. You can see a battle inform here (is in Spanish, yeah :(; but at least you can see how the game table looks):

And another game to tempt you :P

If we are enough people we could start playing a historical campaign, using the map of Europe :).
